RE: Should Ireland follow the UK and leave the EU.

what kind of things are your government trying, apologies i dont know much about your country?

i completely agree with people such as yanis varoufakis, the eu is showing signs of disintegration, if this happens, we re all in trouble.

RE: Should Ireland follow the UK and leave the EU.

absolutely, i have little or no time for things such as nationalism, building walls, even economic ones, are not the answer. we truly need to start cooperating globally or our planet and species are done. we have created these systems which are highly problematic and flawed, so its up to us to change them, we just have to want to, but it wont come easy, as those in power will not yield easily.

RE: Should Ireland follow the UK and leave the EU.

aib is indeed part owned by the state and should have remained under complete public ownership or we should create our own state or publicly owned banking system. this would be far safer for us as we would not be as exposed from the international banking system which is highly unstable at the best of times.

RE: Should Ireland follow the UK and leave the EU.

our country didnt get a bailout, foreign banks got the bail outs, mainly french, german and american banks, which in turn was given to unsecured bondholders who received handsome interest rates for their high risk investment bonds. its also important to note that ireland was in fact a surplus country before the crash but now is one of the most heavily indebted nation in the oecd due to these bail outs.

RE: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)

possibly something i have myself

RE: Irish politicans

sadly we re all stuck in a neoliberal death spiral. hold on tight, its gonna be rough

RE: Should Ireland follow the UK and leave the EU.

damned if we do, damned if we dont. if the eu isnt reformed and very soon, its done, sadly it looks like we ll have to endure a few more serious economic/financial crisis before the reform button is pressed, probably be too late by then

RE: Socialism

show me a country where neoliberalism has been successful?

when a country runs out of money, why not do what all banks do, i.e. just print more!

RE: Socialism

im afraid irelands version of 'socialism', i.e. 'neoliberalism' is slowly failing just like every other country's version of it. we truly need to move on from this two dimensional view of how to run our countries, i.e. the argument of capitalism v;s socialism is extremely boring now. both of these systems have faults and in some cases serious faults but there are other options out there, some we re aware of others we re not, i.e. unknown unknowns. we re an extremely intelligent species, surely we can come together to try solve these issues before we dissolve into a disturbing dystopia?

RE: Happy Christmas

thank you, hope you have a great christmas

RE: It's Official: Trump is the 45th President of the United States of America Blog

'everything is different, but nothing has changed'!

RE: The people has spoken, Trump our new Leader, Part 2

better luck next time folks, id have to agree with noam chomsky, trump is a conman, in which it seems like to me, he may have drained the swamp but has backfilled it with toxic sludge.

RE: USA Abandoning the free world

very few people live in the free world and you d have to wonder if it really exists. most of us live in 'debt peonage', which is far from freedom.

RE: Videos

money and resources are there, our governments are just following fundamentally flawed economic theories and principles

its great to see people being innovative with regarding this serious problem, but maybe we re just better off building the homeless proper homes and helping them deal with whatever complex issues they are experiencingconversing

RE: The people has spoken, Trump our new Leader, Part 2

im amazed that people fall for these silly political slogans such as 'make america great again', ours was 'keep the recovery going', jebus, come on people! i think Paul McCulley is probably right in saying, trump will make some positive changes to the american economy but he ll probably do very little to deal with the complex social problems facing the country, and in fact will probably exasperate them. i particularly like his opinion that trump has now made 'assholery' acceptable in american society. best of luck america, the world is watching and is hoping you can make positive changes to your society but unfortunately the odds are stacked against you with this administration in office.

RE: FIDEL CASTRO DIES

bring on the washington consensus! watch your back cuba!

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

what did ralph nader say? i like the man

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

hes a fool of a man

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

absolutely, but its the idea an administrator can come up with such a disturbing idea is the problem

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

ah many americans are completely disillusioned by their political system and understandably so. europes moving to right as well so we might as well start building our bunkers, as in trumps own words, 'whats the point in having nuclear weapons, if you're not gonna use them' roll eyes

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

more or less what i heard from a festival of economists that was held here recently. i really am more worried about his administration, bunch of lunatics!

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

my sister lives in vancouver, your opinion sounds similar to your neighbours

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

what does canada think?

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

you could very be right in saying trump will be an average president, i dont think he ll achieve a whole lot but i do think paul mcculley is right in saying, he ll come up with some good things. the campaign was one of the worst ive ever witnessed. his demeanor is terrible, certainly not the kind of person id like to run our country. i do believe hes not very intelligent and id believe hes quite lazy, its possible to see that in the way he presents himself. putin on the other hand certain does present himself as energetic and most certainly is no fool. i actually think im more worried about the republican party in general, they have a dreadful history. i was indeed at kilkenomics, its the highlight of my year at this stage. did you go this year? being a lefty, ive no issues with the line up, and having people like deirdre mccloskey and paul mcculley there gives a somewhat balanced view but it most certainly would be interesting to have more right leaning people there.

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

stupid moron is something that is more than likely to come from my mouth but since deirdre mccloskey is far more intelligent than me and more informed, i ll go with hers.

i think everybody should watch this:

we all need to listen to people like this

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

theres a lot of very deluded people out there in regards opinions on trump. i really like deirdre mccloskey's take on him, i.e. hes a 'lazy tyrant'!

RE: Trump, trump, trump, trump!

you d be naive to think elites are 'folding their plans', theyre still making out like bandits as always. goal posts have just moved slightly, theyll change accordingly to continue their destruction.

RE: What's on you're mind part 30

we clearly have a totally different view on what intelligence is, i would class his behaviour as manipulative and opportunistic. i would class our own president as intelligent.

im actually more worried about the rest of the republican party, now they aint very intelligent, in fact id class them as unhinged and very dangerous. its gonna be very scary watching this slow car crash.

of course we all should be working together in trying to deal with syria but i fear the republicans will just start dropping bombs like everybody else.
