Let’s get-together at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas – July 24-29

Come out of the heat of the frying pan and jump directly into the fire (on many levels) that is Las Vegas... The Heat of summer, the cost of fuel, and other reasons, has lead to some good travel deals that those of us looking for a hot-spot getaway meet and greet can enjoy...

I’m not a tour agent, but I and some Vegas area members will help you along on some of the wonderful things to see and do while in Vegas... We will have the opportunity to have meals together, see some shows together, perhaps wonder off to the Grand Canyon (bus tour) together; all of this open to our mutual discussion and agreement... come to meet fellow CS members and have the chance to see some of the sites and sounds (Vegas is NOT just for Gambling - I am personally going for some shows like "The Rat Pack is Back" and "Craig Ferguson" open that weekend...

Click and SignUp above if you’re interested and let’s discuss details and find some good travel deals in the thread below. Prices for travel will vary, obviously, based on your origination point. The longer you delay to make plans, the more airfare costs… so plan early!

Take care.... Hope to see you there.... Join the Group for a fun time in Vegas – for the 6 days or any part of it that you can get away.

Howdy all...

I have already booked tickets (Vegas.com) for "The Rat Pack is Back" show for Friday July 25th, it is at the Plaza (downtown Vegas), hope you may consider joining me for that...

I have pre-paid a ticket for myself for Friday 7/25 VIP-A Dinner show ($86, or so)... If we get others for that up-front section, I will call ahead to work arrangements to get us all seated at middle stage (no promises, of course, but will try)...

Also, I have tickets for the Craig Ferguson, MGM Grand, for Monday 7/28 show... seats are pre-assigned... but if we get a group we may be able to get them to move us together... CS site admin has a great idea...
The Craig Ferguson Show should be great. Often on his TV show he reads an email from a viewer. He also often talks about being single. Once you get a group together for the event, it may be fun to send Craig an email and make him an honorary member of the ConnectingSingles.com Forums and tell him your group will see him in Vegas in July. You never know..
... so if you plan on going, tickets available online only through MGM Grand site (I'll post some links in another thread ... soon) send him an email, if several of us let him know we are coming, he may give us a mention on air (if one of us comes up with a clever question and work in the event) and/or acknowledge us at the vegas show...

Take care... hope to see you there...

i guess since i live in Vegas, I should show up huh? ok , you talked me into it . I dont have much money for the shows and stuff, they are too expensive and I've been there , done that so I can just be a local guide around the strip and give lots of info on where to eat, shop and sightsee , Hope to get a lot of CS friends that I have met online to come on out for a few of the days anyways. See you all here in Sin City for a great time

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement, hope we will have a few to come out...

All my old Cheap-meal haunts are gone... the good ole days of the late-night Steak and Eggs at the Maxim (way back), Burgers at the Westward Hole (as we used to call it), the $2 breakfast at Holiday Inn, crying Stardust (Steak & Lobster) also gone, etc... so hope you professor can indeed point me and others in the right direction...

One visit I definately intend to make, as we had discussed before, is to the Top Of the Strat (Stratosphere, formerly Bob Stupaks "Vegas World") for Dessert (Chocolate lovers, this is a must) and their special TOS Chocolate Tower... It is a scaled model of the Stratosphere Tower made out of the tastiest of Chocolate with the Summit filled with Chocolate Mousse - fit for two, but stay away from the one I intend to devour all by myself... Chocolate Heaven... While enjoying that I (and hope you'll join me) will take in that fantastic overview Southward of the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd)...

I used to walk the entire Strip, both sides, Casino to Casino in order to see the latest renovations and scope out all the restaurants (to locate the best food deals) not sure I have that kind of energy anymore, so I'll probably be getting some Trolley (all-day) passes - Do they still have those? can't imagine why they wouldn't....

Anyway... Looking forward to the last w/e in July, can't wait, getting all excited already... I so need a vacation...
cheers

Understandable, hard for any of us to make any overseas visits, otherwise I'd love to head over for the GT's across the Pond, so I'm hoping the Airline competition to keep their planes full this summer will allow fellow CS members in the States, Canada, and Mexico, to potentially attend...

I got a good deal through Travelocity... http://www.travelocity.com
I'm trying to work with Travelocity to see if we can get a direct link, if not a promo/discount code to help us further save. The airlines want to keep their planes full and Vegas is a little warm at the end of July so they want to offer some deals to keep their rooms filled... In part why I picked that time-frame...

Check out the potential deals peeps, you might be surprised (put the US Economic Stimulus check to good use - what I'm using) :dropping jaw!:

Take care.... see you in the Chat Room peace

Locations, Contact info., and Links.... (links may need to be copy/pasted into browser)

I have pre-planned (already booked) my stay for Thu. July 24 - Tue. July 29 at the Sahara, you DO NOT have to stay the same number of days/nights or at that location in order to participate...
FLY, AMTRAK, or DRIVE your way to Vegas for any or all of this timeframe and we will work out some Get-Together time...
I have made the drive from LA to Vegas, absolutely beautiful drive, hope some CA members will car-pool up together for Sat./Sun.
as the time grows nearer, those signed up will get an email with my Cell # so you can contact me once you make town...

You won't have to plan on spending a fortune we'll arrange low/no cost stops:
Pool-side time, the Showcase (M&M / Coca-Cola site), viewings (Mirage Valcano eruption, Bellagio fountain, TI Pirate Ship show, Freemont Street experience, Circus Acts, more...)
http://www.vegas.com/attractions/freeattractions.html, http://www.vegas.com/attractions/off_the_strip/fremontstreet.html
and try to pre-arrange some Meals together

SAHARA HOTEL & CASINO - Vegas Strip

info: http://travel.travelocity.com/trips/HotelDetail.do?propertyId=31555&startIndex=&showMap=&sortOrder=&sortAlpha=&tab=features&travelPackageId=-1507815796&hotelQKey=&resetReview=true&SEQ=12110737170184172008&hotelQKey= (minor error, they DO have a BIG pool)
I am working with them to try & secure a Group disc. rate, but I have to know whether we will have 5 rooms and up to get reductions...
as of right now, my room is booked at $58/night (std. rm, avg., marked down from $72/nt thru Travelocity) some off-strip show as little as $32/nt, you are by no means expected/required to stay at Sahara, but it would be great to all be at the same place
you may wish, of course, to do your own research, you may have better luck/deals from your locale thru another online travel search site (I've found Travelocity works best for me from Detroit area)
try Vegas.com, Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, or Please post to the Forum if you find somewhere that you Book a good deal thru to this Event

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles... and where to stay...

Getting to Las Vegas, NV USA

via Plane, airlines are providing non-advertised deals through the online Travel booking sites so-as to not have empty planes this Summer, so check with your favorite on-line booking engine or local Travel-agent... Fly into...
Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (Airport code - LAS)
Area 51 / S4 is nearby, but don' t plan on landing there scold
you may wish to play with your dates of travel (to come in and leave any time during this outings date range [Thu.Jul.24-Tue.Jul.29] to find your best airfare). You may also wish to explore alternate arrival Airports and then Drive to Vegas (see by Auto for hints/distances).
Airport Transport Gray Line's Airport Transfers to Las Vegas Strip/Downtown, Tel:702-739-5700, or easily booked as part of trip via Travelocity.com...

via Train, yes, Amtrak does have options from several parts of the country, depending on pickup location and fare choices parts will be by bus, that will then get you to Vegas. Check via Amtrak.com
This option may only be cost-effective if you live in a surrounding state of Nevada, the cost for me was more than flying into Vegas...

by Bus or Auto, you can check with www.greyhound.com or www.trailways.com or www.coachusa.com...
Los Angeles, CA [Airport code:LAX or ONT] - 270 miles, 4 hours...
I have made this beautifully scenic drive while in LA on business, very simple to get to Vegas by getting any North/South Freeway toward I-10, get on I-10 East or West (toward San Bernardino) to I-15 North and that is it... that simple, 2 freeways, I-15 runs right by the Vegas Strip Casinos you will NOT be able to miss them...
Salt Lake City, UT [Airport code:SLC] - 425 miles, 6 hours...
I-15 is easily accessed from many locales in UT via E/W routes, just take I-15 South and Bingo (yes, little gambling joke) you're there....
Phoenix/Flagstaff, AZ [PHX/FLG] - 295/250 miles, 5/4 hours...
again, easy access North/South to I-10 West (or US60-W), to US-93 North which will get you to I-515 and ultimately I-15 and the Strip...
Reno, NV you can try Reno, but I've always found it expesive to fly into Reno, but it is a reasonable drive from there as these other locations...
CAR-POOLING If you plan on driving into Vegas, please post your start location and details, as others may be willing to Car-Pool and share the Gasoline/Petrol expenses reducing overall travel expenses...

Where to stay...
Sahara Hotel and Casino
2535 LAS VEGAS BLVD S, Las Vegas NV 89109, Tel: 7027372654
alternatives...
Circus, Circus... Stratosphere...
are nearest, and many other on or off Strip locations are available for inexpensive rates, such as: Imperial Palace, Fitzgeralds, Riveria, Whiskey Petes, etc...

yay handshake dancing
