For The Last Couple Of Weeks Or So....The Tell Tale Signs Were There With "Miss Anna"...I Just Paid It No Mind....Of Course Everything Seem To Be Running Smooth...So Why Would I Wanna So Called.."Rock The Boat?"...And Upset The Ole "Apple Cart"?

When One Upsets The Ole Apple Cart....There Is Usually A Mess To Clean Up Afterwards...With All Of The Apples All Going In Their Separate Directions...And What Have You
And...Of Course....Sometimes It Cant Be Entirely "Cleaned Up"
Plus......Theres That Ole Saying That Can Come Into Play Here
And That Saying Is
"If It Aint Broke...Dont Fix It"

So...As Time "Rambled On"....And The Tell Tale Signs Were Still There...It Began To Be A Stone In My Shoe
So...I Decided To Do Some Checking For Myself.....I Couldnt Really Find Out... All That Much...So I Kept "Ramblin On"

But For Some Reason... "Miss Anna"...Wasnt Acting The Way She Always Had Been Acting
It Was Almost As If She Didnt Want To Be With Me Anymore
She Wasnt Responding.... As She Always Did Before
Where She Used To Be Vocal... Her Silence... Was Now...A Dead Give A Way

It Was Now Enough For Me... To Come To The Conclusion That "Miss Anna"... Did Not Want To Be With Me Anymore...And Possibly...At Any Given Moment..She Could Be...... On Her Way Out
I Realized That...If This Were To Be The Case.... I Would Have To Accept This As The Reality Of Which It Was

Sometimes...When Things Go Wrong...They Can Be Repaired
Other Times?....Its Time To Throw In The Towel..And Accept That Its Over And That..."You Cant Go Back"
I Guess Ill Find Out In The Near Future
So... In The Mean Time

And... As Always....It Continued To Be... Another Of Those Weeks Of Driving Across.... Good Ole "America"
And...As I Suspected All Along..It Always Comes Out Just The Opposite Of My Thought Process
That Being...."I Think Ive Seen It All"....Nothing Could Possibly Be Any Different...But As Ive said,,,I Was Wrong
When One Thinks What One Thinks Cant Happen...It Usually Does
Unfortunately..It isnt Something For Me To Be Proud Of
And Of Course..Its Mostly Happens In The State Of Pennsylvania...As It Did This Week

When Your Driving A Tractor Trailer...With A Combined Weight Of Nearly 77,000 Pounds
(Some Times It Can Be Up To The Legal Limit Of 80,000 Lbs...(40 Tons)
And Doing 68 Miles An Hour...There Isnt Much That Can Be Done To Avoid Any Problems.... That Just Come Up On You Without Any Warning
(And Even if There Was A Warning..That Warning Would Have To Come To Any Truck Driver...About...And... At The Least..A Quarter Of A Mile...For The Driver To Even Have A Shot Of Avoiding The Situation)

It Was Dark..Around 1030PM ...On Route 80 West.... In Pennslyvania
I Was Coming Down A Steep Grade...(About A Mile Long)
And With The Weight Behind Me...Pushing....I Mustve...At That Point..Been Doing...More Like 80MPHs...With The "Engine Brake" On...All The Way Down

Anyway...As I Was Careening Down The "Grade"... And On A Curve That Was Veering Towards The Right
And As I Entered Into... Where The Curve Was About To Straighten Out
My Head Lights Allowed Me To See This Deer
And What Was He/She Doing In The Lane I Was In?
Just Standing There....And Looking My Way

(Remember)..That When The Brain... Sees Whatever It Sees..It Takes..At The Least... A Second Or Two..For The Brain To Digest What It Has Just Seen
Then..It Takes Another Second Or Two..For The Brain To Tell The Foot..To Apply The Brakes
In This Case..It Was All Over Before Anything Could Be Done

BANG!!!!....Was The Sound Of The Front Of The Truck Meeting This Deer...(Which Rocketed The Deer About 50 Feet In Front Of My Truck..And Then?.... The "Thud" Sound... Of The Back Wheels Proceeding Over The Poor Deer...As I Went Over Him/Her Once More

I Couldnt Come To A Complete Stop... For Almost A Quarter of A Mile
And When I Did...And Got Out To Look At "Miss Anna"...(Thats The Name I Gave My Truck)....I Could see That
The Impact Broke My Right Parking Light On The Front....Put A Walloping Dent In The Right Front Quarter...
And Tore Part Of The Bumper Off

But There Are Just Some Times.... When There Is Nothing Which One Can Do
And This Was One of Those Times
Its a Rotten Feeling...Knowing That "You".... Just Ended Another Life
And...I Know This Incident Will Stay Within My Memory
For Quite Some Time............... Im Sure

The Tractor Trailer Driver Gets A Load In Seekonk Massachusetts... Thats Going To The Other Side Of Indianapolis Indiana..(About 1100 Miles)..Its The Middle Of Winter....10 Degrees....When The Driver Gets Almost To Ohio On Route 80 West...The Heater Core In The Truck Starts Leaking...The Driver Knows This Because The Passenger Side Windshield And Door Window Are Fogging Up ...From The Leaking Anti Freeze....And The Driver Knows That If He Loses His Anti Freeze..He Will Lose His Heat

So The Driver Calls The "Big Fat Owner" ..The Owner Says To Go To The Truck Dealer... And Have Them Disconnect The "Front Heater Core"..Telling The Driver ...That There Is A Rear Heater Core...And He Will Still Have Heat Coming Out Of The Bunk Area In The Rear Of The Truck

The Driver Does What Hes Told... And Has The Truck Dealer Disconnect The "Front Heater Core"
The Driver Starts Driving On
The Driver Gets Further Down The Road...And His 14 Hour Clock Is Running Out...He Has To Stop Before Hes In Violation Of Federal Law
And Guess What?...At The Time He Stops...The Heat Stopped Also!!

He Calls The "Big Fat Owner"...Who Says... "They Must Have Done Something Wrong"
Well...Thats Nice..The Driver Cant Move.. Because Of Federal Law...And He Has A Long.. Bitter Cold Night Ahead Of Him
Needless To Say That... The Driver ...Literally... Almost Froze To Death That Night...(And It Was Totally Impossible To Even Sleep..Thats How Cold It Was....And..When Youre In That Kind of A Situation....A Minute Seems To Take Forever To Pass...Each Minute Seemed More Like An Hour

The Next Morning...When Its Legal For The Driver To Drive Once Again...(And Without Consulting With The "Big Fat Owner") The Driver Goes Back To The Truck Dealer ...And Has Them Put It Back The Way It Was
This Way...Hed Still Have Heat....(Though It Was Leaking)....As Long As He Kept The Radiator Full
Oh......And By The Way... The Driver Was Told When He Went Back To The Truck Dealer... That There Was No "Back Heater Core"...As The "Big Fat Owner" Had Said

Now..... Lets Fast Forward.... To When The Driver Gets Back To The Terminal...At The End Of That "Disaster Of A Week"

The Driver Walks Into The Office...(Where The Other 6 Or So Personnel ...Are Seated At Their Desks...Busy With Their Staring At The Computer Screens)

The Driver Hands In His Paper Work For That Week To The "Big Fat Owner"
The "Big Fat Owner" Was Angry At The Truck Driver...And He Says To The Driver..(Loud Enough For All In The Office To Hear)........."Whats Wrong With You?!!"...."Dont You Know That You Put In The Wrong Bill Of Laden Number On This Return Sheet?!!"
"My Staff Had to Waste A Lot Of Time...Trying To Run Down That Bill Of Laden Number"
"This is A Business Im Running Here Sir...And We Cant Afford To Be Making Mistakes!!!!!

At This Point...It Is Clear That The Office Personnel Are Listening...(Though They Are All Making Believe They Are Hard At Work

Needless To Say... That The Truck Driver Has Had Enough Of This Bull Shit

And He Replies To The "Big Fat Owner" ... With A Decibel Level... That Was A Lot Louder Than The "Big Fat Owners" Voice Level

And He Says...(Rather Loudly)

"You Wanna Talk About Making Mistakes?!!"
"Well...Heres One For Ya!!
"Was It Not You ...That Told Me To Have Them Disconnect The Heater Core On The Truck!!"
"Was It Not You... Who Said There Was A Back Heater Core...And That Id Still Have Heat?!!"
"Was It Not You That Made The Decisions?!!"
"And Was It Not... Because Of You..... That I Almost Froze To Death Out There...While You Were In Your Nice Warm Home?!!!"
"You Got A Lot Of Nerve To Be Telling Me About Making Mistakes!!"

(At This Point..The "Big Fat Owner" Was Tongue Tied..(As He Knew The Office Personnel Had Heard All That Was Said)
