Storing habit
For those of us over 40, hoarding things seems to be a strong habit. So we keep tons of things that we generally never will use.
In contrast with younger generations, who like changing their cell phones as if they were shirts, we resist changing things that are still working, just because now there are more modern ones with more functions.
I wonder whether it is a particular habit, in our case inherited from our grandparents, since many of them came to Argentina running away from a miserable postwar Europe, or if it is just a generational difference happening everywhere.

Well, I think that start to change. I am not consumerist and most of my niece they are not, too.
e.g. I dropped and broke a small digital camera recently. It was going to cost approx £100 just for anyone to look at repairing it, so I bought a new one for the same price and the functionality is far better than my previous 3 year old one.
I do think its a generational difference but it happens everywhere, not only in Argentina, and I also believe it has something to do with the miserable postwar Europe situation.
As for me, born after WW11, my parents taught me, never trow anything away that still works or can be useful sometime down the road. Good is good, special is something different.
But I also think we have to get used these days, to change in that cause as RDM said, now a days buying something new is cheaper then repair the things you have.
I too keep my stuff as long as it works and have no need to stay up to date with all these new technologies but sometimes we have no choice.
Another thing, being in the economical bad situation we are all in now, I do think its easier for the older to take a step back, then for the younger, cause we where there before, and our kids actually grew up with a lot more wealth and the feeling the world is theirs. I hope they get trough this as we did, cause its a good lesson of life to learn how to appreciate what you have in better times.
Yeah, bad times teach something too. It’s good that kids know how to economize when it’s necessary.
I personality always think that things should be well spent till the end. If something is not useful for me anymore, it will be useful for someone else.
On the other hand, it’s also really truth that mass production has eliminated the jobs of many people.
So I think you have not room for yourselves. Ok boy, it’s time you decide to rid out some stuff
