Sensible or sneaky? (maybe snarky as well)
I saw an online ad for a business, possibly here on CS, that offers to do a background check on your prospective paramour. If you were dating someone, would you dig into that person's background?I guess I might be imprudently innocent, but that certainly wouldn't be the first thing to cross my mind. It seems venal or shady or crass to me. Then again, I might be the foolish one. Maybe it's the smart thing to do. I guess I'd like to know if someone is a convicted criminal, but I would hope they would tell me without digging up dirt behind their back. I want to believe people are good until proven otherwise.

I agree with you irishidaho it's shady. What are the chances that they have some major criminal convictions in their past.I think you'll just end up shelling out major bucks to hear about their parking and speeding tickets.
I think it's very sneaky; I like to think I'm old and wise enough to make my own decisions on whether I'd like to be with someone and digging dirt behind their back wouldn't be the most trusting thing to do.
I take people at face value; don't think I'd care too much about things from their past anyway, it would only make me biased.
I like to believe people are good until they prove themselves otherwise as well.
Thank you. Thank you very much.
I had someone I was corresponding with suggest we both check each other out. I wrote back telling him I had nothing to hide
and gave him my full name and address...now I am sorry I did that.
He disappeared a few weeks after that!!
I am also of the conviction that people are good until proven otherwise... the disadvantage resides in the time and energies that we must invest to prove otherwise... Perhaps I am wrong or have had not many pleasant experiences in the past but seems that people can be enormously deceitful in real life so in some ways I can understand the reason to try to qualify in the virtual world....
Just another opinion
