There was time about 30 yrs ago, when small Bulgaria really was in top 5 or 10. Then the communist rule gave heaps of money to prove that the communist system is better, in sport too. Now our sport has a lot of problems which reflect on the number of medals. Hopefully our athletes will be successful!
"Kostadinova is the reigning world record holder in the women's high jump at 2.09 m, which she jumped during the 1987 World Championships in Rome. Her world record is one of the oldest in modern athletics. Altogether Kostadinova set seven world records - three outdoors and four indoors. She also holds the women's world record for having jumped over 2.00 m 197 times."
And we have a very famous athlete in London, Jordan Jovtchev, where is his 6th participation in Olympic games!
"Jovtchev is a four-time Olympic medalist, having won a silver on still rings, his specialty, and a bronze on floor exercise at the 2004 Olympics in Athens after winning bronzes on both events four years earlier in Sydney. He's also won 13 medals at the world championships, including the titles on both rings and floor in 2003 and 2001."
We have also two young, pretty, and very successful tennis players in London: Tsvetana Pironkova and Grigor Dimitrov.
No point in counting. We're going to win all of them
Seriously, the U.S. isn't good in all sports but we do pretty well in swimming, gymnastics, basketball and vollyball. Carl Lewis and Jackie Joyner Kersee won track medals but that's not a regular thing for the U.S. I think we won the most gold in the last summer olympics so that should tell you something.
Michael Phelps and Ryan Loche are on tonight in swimming..
