i,m curoius two no in other cultures ..some interesting saying .etc...and yes i no that the thunderbox sounds really romantic...lol...but i,m giving exsample of worst case scenero!!!...

Market, when you go to the US... it's politic to ask for the 'bathroom' or 'restroom'... if you ask for the 'toilet', it's considered crass.

It was a learning lesson for me when I was over there.

You are right Abagail, Salle de Bain is "bathroom". It sometime includes the toilet. In some homes, the toilet is separated from it and is commonly called here the WC or toilet.
Salle de Bain generally is the room where you'll find a shower or bathtub, bidet, sink. handshake

My niece visited Australia last year, it will never be the same after she left. laugh
Don't blame the whole nation for this unfortunate event. laugh
I can say I admire her for going to visit there by herself, it will enrich her understanding of other cultures.
