in rememberance of the heroes.

Today november 11th. The day that my country remembers the end of world war 1. Also known as the big war. Over 70 million soldiers have been involved, over 9 million of them have died.

For my country the war started when germany after invading luxembourg, wanted to invade france and ask us to let them pass on our grounds in order to have a more effective assault on france. We being neutral at that time have refused that request. German troops however crossed our borders and we have stood up against them. They being so much bigger then us had no trouble taking most of our land fast.. it just took them a few months untill our troops were cornered on a area that only was a few square miles.. but on that spot we have fought the germans off for 4 years. untill the war ended.

At current date we still have the traditional last post every day being played at yper in honour of the fallen soldiers. A tradition that will last forever so nobody would ever forget the tragic that happened at those grounds.

it has been so long ago.. but it seems as belgians have always been a fair and proud country. We can take allot of sh*t but we will never back down for anyone. Our braveness has been descibed by Julius Caesar in his "commentarii de bello gallico" by saying that
"Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae" translated "the belgians are the bravest of them all"

and yes we have been brave, we have beaten the germans, the french, the spanish, the dutch,... All countries allot bigger then ours. Belgians truly are great. But yes we have not done all of this ourselves we have had support from other nations quite often in those battles, and we thank them for that.

TeddyBeerke I rememberer seeing in a history book a British Propaganda poster used here in Ireland during the Great War 'Save Little Catholic Belgium'.
Maddog.. when germany invaded us the britsh and the french have come down to our country to help us defend our grounds.. Many of them have died on those few square miles and all of them have been honoured ever since. Many british and Irish will have had familymembers that have been fighting here during the great war.
Many of them will have family burried at one of the funeral sites.

My grandfather died also on the war world 2 and they didnt give him nothing, except 2 medals and they put his name on a monument in city Cluj- Napoca. sad flower
my grandfather has also been in the 2nd World war.. he has survived and was honoured with medals as well. But I can never understand why so many must die because of some ego's that have become to big and feel the need to start wars. Wouldn't it be easier if at war we all send our prime minister or king or president or whatever into an arena and let just those guys fight it out. that would prevent allot of innocent killings
Here is a very interesting Piece of Hidden History an article about Fallon's Publishing who publish all Books for Irish schools.
I think it very interesting.

many hidden facts in history will show themself as being very interesting. I don't think i've heard of this guy before.
Here Novembet 11th is veterans day . It is a time when we remember our veterans of all wars . We also forget the real message in the pomp and ceremony that acompanies it .
We too will remember all veterans on this day frank. But since november 11th was the date that WW I ended I have written specificly about those soldiers.
Ours (Indonesian's) is November 10th..
The First World War was " the war to end all wars " ! I guess we kind of missed the objective in that one .
Maybe we should file a lawsuit to whoever it was that made that claim frank.. you think we got a chance of making some money that way?
yeah ... and the somme was the worse military defeat/tragedy the allies were eva to receive ... awful tactics .. thousands of lives lost!
