in rememberance of the heroes.
Today november 11th. The day that my country remembers the end of world war 1. Also known as the big war. Over 70 million soldiers have been involved, over 9 million of them have died. For my country the war started when germany after invading luxembourg, wanted to invade france and ask us to let them pass on our grounds in order to have a more effective assault on france. We being neutral at that time have refused that request. German troops however crossed our borders and we have stood up against them. They being so much bigger then us had no trouble taking most of our land fast.. it just took them a few months untill our troops were cornered on a area that only was a few square miles.. but on that spot we have fought the germans off for 4 years. untill the war ended.
At current date we still have the traditional last post every day being played at yper in honour of the fallen soldiers. A tradition that will last forever so nobody would ever forget the tragic that happened at those grounds.
it has been so long ago.. but it seems as belgians have always been a fair and proud country. We can take allot of sh*t but we will never back down for anyone. Our braveness has been descibed by Julius Caesar in his "commentarii de bello gallico" by saying that
"Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae" translated "the belgians are the bravest of them all"
and yes we have been brave, we have beaten the germans, the french, the spanish, the dutch,... All countries allot bigger then ours. Belgians truly are great. But yes we have not done all of this ourselves we have had support from other nations quite often in those battles, and we thank them for that.
