however knowing someone will miss you is irrelevant to someone that no longer cares
It's quite a journey, isn't it?
One key part is to know that the feelings will get better again if you do the right things. The effort isn't small or quick but with the right guidance, it works.
It would be great to know what is coming and stop it before it happens. The difficult part is for someone who is heading for the pit to connect with someone who recognizes it and can help them avoid it.
Then you're in the pit, I think the most important part is to have people you connect with. To talk quietly or just exist in the same space. A pep talk doesn't help... there isn't a quick fix... just knowing that someone is there with you... someone to take a walk with... to talk to about what you're feeling.
Learning how to avoid adding to the problem is important just as learning how to come back towards normal. Ask a doctor... find a counselor, psychologist, etc. Slow down and spend time on healing and it gets better.
A good topic to discuss. Difficult... but good to talk about this.
