Sorry Teddy.
Let me tell you that the issue with an 8m rod will be the weight of the rod. If it ain't a carbon-fiber rod, then do not buy it!
It will break your back and spoil the experience.
Having said that, a carbon fiber rod costs 10 times as much as a normal fiber rod.
You could have a go at shrimps or worms, however, if you intend to fish anywhere near the coast, the smaller fish will ravish your bait and you won't stand much of a chance to catch anything bigger. I would go for a 'less good' a bait .. something like the traditional bread and cheese -am not kiddin. Ask around if you don't believe me.
10+ years experience in there son; so make sure to treasure it!
Happy angling.
for fishing from land ie.rocks or beach you will do ok with a rod of 3 to 4 m you can find them on ebay .
wishing you tite line's
And it has the added emotion of doing something illegal and possibly irreparable.
