rod

Is a 8 meter-long fishing rod reaaly too long for a beginner?

It is said that 5-6m is perfect.

I don't think the choice of rod has much to do with your experience as a fisher.. It would have more to do with what you are trying to catch, what kind of water are you fishing in, What kind of fishing do you wanna do?
sea, shore, small fish. rocky.
I meant the last of my post for NoPariser.

Sorry Teddy.
kay he's fishing in sea water of course (there's nothing else in Malta).

Let me tell you that the issue with an 8m rod will be the weight of the rod. If it ain't a carbon-fiber rod, then do not buy it!

It will break your back and spoil the experience.

Having said that, a carbon fiber rod costs 10 times as much as a normal fiber rod.

You could have a go at shrimps or worms, however, if you intend to fish anywhere near the coast, the smaller fish will ravish your bait and you won't stand much of a chance to catch anything bigger. I would go for a 'less good' a bait .. something like the traditional bread and cheese -am not kiddin. Ask around if you don't believe me.

10+ years experience in there son; so make sure to treasure it! laugh

Happy angling. beer
thank you Guys! I've read sg. similar.
use a bait caster with spider wire and a steel leader, then slice fresh porter house steak real thin and weave it over your hook. the fish cant get the bait off as easily so they just grab and run with it head banger
no,
for fishing from land ie.rocks or beach you will do ok with a rod of 3 to 4 m you can find them on ebay .

wishing you tite line'speace
If you haven't previous experience you may use dynamite, all the fishes get afloat in a moment.
And it has the added emotion of doing something illegal and possibly irreparable.laugh
we just use an old model T coil, or an old hand crank telephone with a couple wires and a net..no bang, but the fish always come to the surface and say "hello"wave
