The Train Ride
I live in the city where public transportation is the cheapest way to get downtown where I work. Today as I found my seat I noticed an older woman sitting at the aisle across from me. I did a double take, but not wanting to embarrass myself I just put the old headphones on and settled in for the ride.A few minutes later another passenger got on and as I looked closer I realized it was an old friend of mine that I hadn't seen in years. After a minute or two I went over and spoke to her - great way to start a Monday morning!
In retrospect, there are always people that need some encouragement or just a simple friendly smile to make it through the day. It seems I am always making friends on the train! Wouldn't have it any other way. It is always new and exciting every day - never know who you'll meet or who just may be down on their luck and needs that small bit of conversation or smile.
