What do you need a radio station for? There are plenty in SA who you could contact directly

Hi Unla wave
Howzit Coch! wave hug
I suppose I could put one up again. Still own the equipment, but there would be some hassle with a new antenna and the changes in zoning laws. Lot of money would be needed for palm greasing (call it legal fees). Is there a valid reason for the request?
Hi Ken_19

Thank you for your message. Where did your passion for the radio industry started. I would like to enter the radio industry in South Africa but it is very difficult to get into the radio industry especially if you don't know people in the radio industry. What did you do in your radio station? Were you the owner of the radio station? The radio stations in South Africa don't allow the public to visit them because the radio stations do get a large number of requests for site visits.

At this moment, unemployment in South Africa is very high. Radio stations do pick the best when it comes to recruit new staff members. People who don't have any experience in the radio industry don't get work in the radio industry except if you have contacts.

The reason for the post or blog was just to talk with a person who do work for a radio station. I don't have any friends who is working for a radio station.

Please, let me know.

Thank you.

Regards.

I have experience with a few in SA. Send your CV in to them. Don't rely on a "friend" to get you in there thumbs up
Hi Unlaoised.

Thank you for your message. I tried many times before to apply for work at radio stations, but it is very difficult to get work in South Africa due to affirmative action. Your contacts at radio stations is the best option. It doesn't matter who you is, it does matter who you know.

Thank you.

In my case I began with Amateur Radio, aka HAM Radio. Back in those days running the equipment often required understanding how it worked and a HAM who had actually built his own radios and legally used them was a better choice for a station job than someone who had just gone to school but never burned his fingers on a hot tube or had a relay get stuck while switching frequencies. Once your HAM license reached a high skill level many stations would consider an application from you. Likewise once you understand how they work, getting a license allowing you to run a commercial station of your own was not an impossible task. These days here in the US much has changed but I still believe a genuine license is a good start. Sure, today it is all digital and packet and satellite and computer controlled, and the license fees have climbed out of sight with no more cheap frequencies and everything going for highest bid at auction, but somewhere deep in the guts of the operation there is a need for someone who knows how to tune an antenna and the difference between capacitance and resistance.
Good morning Ken_19

Thank you for your feedback. Regards. Jan 991.
I used to work for a station here in Oz. What sort of work can you do? I used to do production, as well as on-air programmes and troubleshooting. rolling on the floor laughing The number of times I found myself under the console whilst someone was on air, and doing their best to ignore me.
It was the best and the worst 11 years of my life. It was the fulfillment of my boyhood dreams, but because of my passion for radio, I was taken for granted, and taken advantage of. At least radio is out of my system now ... been there done that dunno
If it is your dream to work on radio then follow the dream .. sooner or later though you have to wake up yay
Good afternoon CapricornDancer.

Thank you for your message. My dream is to start my own small radio station in South Africa (SA) or in another country. There are many colleges who provide courses in the radio industry in SA but it is pointless to do a course in radio if you can’t get work in SA in the radio industry.
I am a full time student at a college and I am busy studying towards my qualifications in the IT field at this moment. My objective is to do a few courses, in radio, after my full time studies, over the weekend. The radio courses will help me to get to my dream.

Thank you for your help.
Regards.
