Senior Moments

I know... I know... we ALL have them, or have had them, and will have them if you be so blessed to live long enough. Long enough?... well, it is said "Senior Moments" start around the age of 40, and continues as part of the aging process. And we ALL are going forward in age, not backward.

The definition of "senior moments" is said to be, "an instance of momentary forgetfulness or confusion that is attributed to the aging process."dunnouh oh

The truth about senior moments is, that it is a nonmedical term for mental glitches related to early signs of alzheimers and dementia disease, and it can be rather scary for some who experience them. Of course, we all have laughed when we've experienced those moments of not remembering where we placed this or that, or why for what reason we went into the kitchen or bathroom. We have also laughed at others who have done some funny and silly stuff during one of their "senior moments".

About two months back, I had purchased a large container of liquid dish detergent, and when I got ready to use it, I couldn't for the life of me find where I had placed it. I thought maybe I left it at the store check-out counter, so I called, and was told to bring back my receipt and they would replace it for me. But I was determined not to give up just yet, because I knew in the back of my mind, I had brought it home. But because I needed to use the detergent two days later, I ran out and got another one. Three days passed, after I had purchased a new bottle, I made a spill and had to clean it up... low-and behold!!]/b]... there was the detergent right in the fruit tray in the fridge where I had been going in and out of, for almost a week unnoticed. I was so out-done I could only scream out in laughter at myself, and called my friend and together we had a good laugh rolling on the floor laughing frustrated

Have you experienced your share of senior moments?[/b} Sure you have, why not for laughs, share them with us... thanks mumbling doh hmmmhole uh oh

That sort of thing could be really scary if you play with explosives much. laugh
Angel, did you just have a senior moment? laugh ... How many times have you missed placed your car keys or eye glasses, only to find them right in THE same spot you had placed them? That's considered a senior moment..lol

Just think making a list, only to forget where you placed the list, or forget to read'the list. laugh

I had a friend who had another friend and me helping her to find her eye glasses'for about '5"minutes, she could not figure where she had put them after doing some writing... then I happened to notice she was wearing them...'what a scream rolling on the floor laughing

Yes, Ken, it depends on how serious it is... but at your age I'm sure you have experienced those senior moment memory gliches as well. laugh... you just don't care to talk about them ...heeeeelooowave
Hmm, I am afraid my dementia hasn't started yet. For what it is worth neither of my parents had it either. I am very grateful I may not be on that path. I have had mental glitches of course, beginning at about 10 or so. Forgot to bring the house keys with me before going to school. More than once I confess. Somewhere around age 30 I went to work once without important equipment. Had to turn right around and go back home for it. But mental glitches caused by thinking of other things probably aren't what you speak of, so sadly I haven't experienced (yet) the things you speak of.
Hello SistaCalliewave What is it we were talking about, confused ,, rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
I haven't worked for 6 yrs now, MS, and have noticed I have no eating , sleeping schedules, or routines and have cleared my thoughts of a lot of needless information, maybe I went too far, my seniors moments seem to come in bunches, rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
I never said, nor even implied, I had never heard of them. Of course I have. I have seen aging folks mentally deteriorate around me all my life. A nursing home I used to visit had lots of folks like that. I merely wrote I am not experiencing it yet.
I don't have any senior moments.

I've had them all my life! As a kid I could put things down and go back to where I thought they were, maybe 1 minute later, and I wouldn't be able to find them.

They haven't gotten worse with age. They've gotten more hilarious!!! I wonder how in tarnation I can lose things ALL the time.
I do stupid things lots of times especially putting things in places where I can't find it again. I blame it on having only 2 hands so have to put something down in order to pick up something else. For example changing my shoes before going to town can result in the car keys ending up amongst my shoes.
What is it?
I remember one instance. I was engaged fiercely in a hot political debate with friends. Almost everybody was against my viewpoint barring one. I ignited my cigarette from the filter side and threw it but by then 3/4th of filter smoke was inhaled.
One another when struggling hard with a file format. It was half day gone without any success. In between I was searching for pen to note down the information collected regarding that issue. My daughter came to help and asked what I was looking for. Irritated as I was, I cried, "It is you miscreants who take away my pen and paper. I don't find my pen anywhere though I bought a dozen". But pops, the pen is in your hand. She laughed and me embarrassed.
I strongly suspect your detergent vanished into the 4th dimension and reappeared seconds before you spotted it. Been happening to me since I was a slip of a lass, long before senile moments could be an issue.

It could of course be aliens. rolling on the floor laughing
Ken, sorry, I misunderstood your comment.bouquet

ED, you said it...HILARIOUS!... some of those senior moments are very hilarious especially, when you snap back into your right mind, and realize what has taken place. rolling on the floor laughing

Elself, too funny... yes, of course, it all sounds familiar laugh ...either you can find the keys, then lose the shoes, or find the shoes you've picked out to wear, and can't find the keys.. can be serious stuff, then you know its time to seek help if both happens, losing the keys and the shoes. rolling on the floor laughingconfuseddoh

Iotaoo, OH, NO, NOT YOU TOO?...laugh it can be rather embarrassing in front of your kids whom you're determined to do your darnedest to impress as being in control of ALL THINGS lol.. and it can also be embarrassing even when you're alone, depending on the circumstances... completely outdone... stuckhole

Vivan, I think you have the answer for everyone who experiences these senior moments, even the doctors couldn't have come up with this diagnoses or reason...lol.. yes, ALIENS! rolling on the floor laughing... that's a good one... the blame game works in a lot of cases, at least this is something medical science should consider the possibilities... placing blame on aliens instead of on mind overload. Why not?... aliens inhabiting the mind, moving things around in people's houses, this is the cause of senior moments. hmmmtransport wow! why didn't I think of this?...:roll; funnee.

Thanks guys for all your comments. just remember, some of us chuckled, and laughed at our parents, (I admit I did) when they were aging and did something totally off the hook...now its our term, and the payback is even the more laughable. laughbouquet
