So Now I can Say That this Story is Over...
Yesterday the guys running the CERN collider let beam 2 get out of synch with beam 1. The result was very nearly an Earth ending event. The Particle Accelerator has been powered off again while the issue is 'studied.'
Don't take my word for it.
Another second or two and you wouldn't have had enough time to ask what (is that?) You would have been like wha... You'd have been gone. All of us would have been.
So go ahead, start loading your ship.
