"GENERATIONS OF THE PAST"

One Of The Very Sad Times In The History Of America... Was The Removal Of The Native Americans From Their Homes..Imagine What That Felt Like?!....Being Forced From Your Homes ...That You... And Your Ancestors Had Lived On For Generations In The Past
But It Happened..Though Some Choose To Remain Blind

In The Years Of 1838 And 1839..The Great And Proud Cherokee Nation...(As Part Of Andrew Jacksons " Indian Removal Policy")...Were forced To Give Up Their Lands...East of The Mississippi River...And Walk To The Then... And Present Day..Oklahoma
This Was Started By The "Treaty Of New Enchota" That Was Signed In The Year 1830...Which In Effect...Exchanged Indian Land...East Of The Mississippi River For Land West Of The Mississippi
This Land West Of The Mississippi River Was Called "Oklahoma"
Which Are 2 Indian Words
"Okla"...Meaning "Red"....And
"Homa"...Meaning "Man"
This Land Of "Oklahoma" ...Was Designated For The American Indians

The Tribes That Were Forced To Make This Death March Earlier Were Were The "Muscogee"..The "Seminole"...The "Chickasaw" And Choctaw People..And The "Cherokee Nation" ....Some Years Later
The Indian People Were Forced To Make This Deathly Journey Of 2,200 Miles..Mostly Walking
Before This Journey Was Completed...Roughly 4000 American Indians Died from Exaustion..Starvation..And Desease
And To Make It Brief.... For Those Who Cannot Read Long Stories
The Land Designated For The Indians..(And The Indians Only)..Was Taken From Them... With The Coming Of The "Oklahoma Land Rush"
So... This Forced Removal Of Indians From Their Homelands... Was Called..."The Trail Of Tears"

Why Was It Called This?....No... Not What Most People Would Think
The American Indians... Were All..To Proud... To Cry Themselves
In All Actuality
It Was The White People... In The Towns And Villages.... That This Procession Went Through That Cried
For What They Were Witnessing

"They Took The Whole Cherokee Nation"
"Locked Us On This Reservation"
'Took Away Our Native Tongue"
"And Taught Their English To Our Young"

A Sad Part Of Our History... Here In The USA...(Amongst Others)

More then once I took a trip up through The Smoky Mountains to Cherokee,North Carolina to visit the The Museum but never got a chance to watch the "Unto the Hills" outdoor drama of the Cherokee'tragic "Trail of Tears.

I found out while visiting that Cherokee is a town on the reservation home of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation in Western north Carolina, the 18th century Cherokee lifestyle.

Unfortunately for me my parents ancestry were Ottawa and Chippewa of Michigan but obviously from what I learned that their lands were taken by the White man too as were the Cherokee.

From what I learned from history books while in school I found later on in my lifetime by talking to some Native Americans up in the upper parts of Michigan that what I was taught while in Grade School and up was wrong.

I also remember when some of my classmates would mock the Indians by playing Cowboys and Indians.

I had also found out that my parents ancestry were taken from their families and forced to attend boarding schools and couldn't practice their language plus had to wear their hair short and clothing of the white man.

My neighbor who's ancestry were Cherokee told me that their ancestry had walked the Trail of Tears and many men, women and children had died during that walk. But at the same time were able to escape.
opps meant to say that some of the Cherokee were able to escape in the hills.

It has been a terrible injustice done to the Native people.
Same in Canada, children put in schools and still carry the mental scars.
I live on Native land and these Natives have been given many rights back.
Never will it all be made right. crying

Nam I appreciate reading the history of what happened in the States about the Natives. handshake wave wave wave
That is what people do in order to survive. You kill or drive the ones out who are in your way. Humans have not yet invented any other way so what was still is and will be in future.
Even To This Day...The White Man Disrespects The Indian

The Club..."Skull And Bones"(Here In The USA)
Still Possesses Geronimos Skull

"Skull And Bones" Was Sued By Relatives Of Geronimo
In The End..."Skull And Bones" Returned This Skull To The Family
(By Doing This..It Had Admitted To The World... That It Did Have Possession Of Geronimos Skull)
But When Test Were Performed On The Skull
It Was Shown That It Was The Skull Of A Child

Maybe One Day.... Geronimos Skull Will Be Returned And Buried
And Then Finally...His Spirit..... Shall Be Set Free

Ken,

I'm sorry, but I have to oppose in some part with your opinions.....first of all the cherokee had a internal civil war going on also, where some was on the other side and the other on the opposed side.......perhaps because they had made that agreement, they knew, they had to fight, but also, that they had to fight on the winning side.....because on the loosing side, they could be all killed in the end and it was looking first, that the Union was the weaker part.

Then you say that Indian tribes earned their situation by them self and in that way you generalize all tribes, like as if there had not been any Indians loyal to the Union at all, that is not the fact,Delawares and many other stay all the civil war close to the Union.

Also you should remember from what happening the yearly celebration Tank's Giving is coming from, where Indians was first helping new settlers over the winter and then white people gave thank's for it,by killing women and children, when the men was out hunting.....don't you think Indians learned something from the whites then, how to kill women and children in the future.

Ken it looks always to be,that the winning part can manipulate the truth, give back with all their HATE and even in the end justify what they have done.
