"I'm not ready to be in a relationship"

I was thinking about this phrase today while sitting outside. It occured to me that I've heard it a lot but never truly understood how someone could mean it and yet hang out with one person all the time or even be romantic around them.

Then it happened to me. I'm trying to get several things off the ground right now and I'm very concerned about my own well being and where I stand financially. So, while I wouldn't mind hanging out with people often, I couldn't possibly dedicate myself to a relationship.

Relationships take time, attention, and energy. You have to be willing to be there for someone and spend real brain power on them. If you're really focused on trying to get yourself established you don't really have time for that. You could hang out with someone every week but not be willing to date them because "hanging out" doesn't require as much attention and energy as does "dating".

It's always interesting to me when the lightbulb goes on in my head and I can understand where a man might come from just a little bit better than I did before.
So now I can actually say that perhaps a man might think I'm extremely awesome and it actually DOESN'T have anything to do with me, he's just not ready to be in a relationship.

Huh. Wonders never cease.

I totally agree. I'm somewhat in the same situation right now. I have found out that during these times you actually get to know the people better, because your more relaxed and don't feel so pushed to commit to anything.

I think that if a relationship develops from friendship, that it is stronger and has much deeper roots.

I've also got a lot going on right now and it's hard to really focus on things other than my son and me. Once I start back to school, I will be totally absorbed.

Yet, it is still good to have some really good friends that you can talk with and have some good laughs.wave
