I worked my second job bartending yesterday. I was hustling from 3 pm to 1 am. My feet are swollen & aching! And then I had to come to my main job this morning. Boy, was it hard to crawl out of bed! But I made GREAT tips!
Mind you, I'm not complaining... it was my choice to take on a second job. And I do enjoy bartending. If you have to work a second job, at least you're in a social setting.
Unfortunately, I had to cut my first drunk off... ever... last evening. And it turned out to be a friend/acquaintence who actually came in because she knew I was working. But my job is my job, regardless of who you are.
Anywho, I just felt like posting about this. No big reason, just cuz.
Most people know I am retired and truly do nothing productive anymore, but when I was in the working world I had several occassions where I held two jobs in order to support my family. I lived tired for years and years. Sweetowen these will be "the good old years you will remember". I know I remember all of those times extremely well.

I envy you Sweetowen to have such a social job as bartending...
I know it is very hard work but is one of the most social jobs in the world...

When my daughter was younger & I wasn't receiving child support on a regular basis, I worked 2 & sometimes, 2 jobs at a time, just to not have to raise her "on the system". Now, I can use the extra income, but it's not totally necessary. I have my roommate & FINALLY, I'm getting the back child support... now that she's 22 years old! But with the extra income, I can now spoil my grandbabies & help my daughter out, when needed.
Besides, to me, it's better to be serving than to be on the other side, drinking too much.

dcj22: I've worked 2 jobs before too. It's hard to do, but I'm glad your tips were so great!
That's just more money for souvenirs for all of your CS friends, right?
It sure is!! Besides, it'll be nice to have some money put back for my house & appliances I want to purchase. I have a feeling I may need to get a new washer & dryer before too long.

Quit wearing clothes and you won't need that waser and dryer...

Yeah, it actually is fun. And I'm not going to deny that I get flirted with. But then, that's how we sometimes make good tips, right?
My body's just not used to it anymore. It's been 3 years since my last bartending job. While I seem to have caught right back on to it (I work in a private club & they have gambling), my feet & legs are screaming at me! And I had to wear slip-on shoes today, because my regular shoes felt like vices.
pretzelman: you may have saved her life or someone elses...maybe a child!!Truth is...she probably went somewhere else and continued drinking
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I think her boyfriend was driving & seemed fine. And yes, I believe she probably went somewhere else. Later on, she called me at the club & slurred, "Did I get attitude with you? My boyfriend said I gave you attitude." I told her she was fine & that I didn't have time to talk right then (little white lie).

You are doing just great!
However, I sense a little unhappiness hidden among the enthusiasm.
What goal are you working towards?
Is that goal what keeps you going?
Bartending is great (I have done it a three different points in my life) but it isn't everything to make you feel fulfilled and after a couple of years it is definitely time for most of us to 'move on'.
Enjoy the bartending while you can - then move on!
I know it's just a second and part-time job and in another thread you said you needed the second income, but remember that there are only 24 hours in a day and most people only work about 8 hours and sleep about 8 hours and, unless you love your work, that eight hours that the everage person has off away from sleeping or working is what they live for!

Good luck!
I'm not really unhappy. It was my choice honestly. I'm just exhausted. I worked 10 hours on a Sunday... my normal day off. But I couldn't wait to get home & count my tips! I couldn't even close my purse with them!

That's a great feeling - for you a purse and for me a nice big bulge in my pockets!¬ woohoo!
i have worked 2, now 3 jobs for about 6 yesrs now. my goals was to put both my kids through college so that they wouldn't have had all the student loans that i had. anyway, the youngest graduates in may...yeah! but, the older you get the harder it is to work on your feet all day.

i am off work today. think i will go hiking???
The first time I tended bar, it was to pay for my daughter's braces. Ironically, she lost her retainer & her teeth moved again anyway.
But my friends keep telling me to have a stash of money in case anything breaks down in my home.
Go hiking... on your day off?? I wouldn't be able to! My roommate is always wanting to massage my feet... last night, I realllllly could've used it! But it was already going on 2 am & we both had to be up for work.
