mylifewithu: I was online and it shut off, I think the power supply bit the dust. Cause It was working fine then just died. I can push the button to turn it on and all it's pretty lights inside light up and fans kick on for a split second, then nothing, they are off again. I am hoping it's not serious. The tiny red light on the motherboard stays lite. So there is some power going to it.
Thats not going to be an easy fix. Too bad your not closer. My son fixes them.

See, if it was the power supply, and you were lucky you might be able to swap the things from your old comp. (if they were compatible that is)
*sigh* wish I knew more.

Yeah too bad. I will talk to my daughter maybe she knows. I may end up having to buy one. I have checked for loose wires , it had one the other day a connection half way to me harddrive was loose and crashed. maybe that caused the power supply to short out and die a few days later.professor

If the one shes on now is that old, the power supply wont be big enough to run the newer ones

Unfortunately this old computer is so old that it power supply won't match up inside at all, and most likely a lot lower power than the other one.sigh

Now that is a possiblility, I need to find where those are then. Since I had a loose connection recently it may have shorted a fuse. Are they inside the power supply. This power supply is clear cause it has fans that light up.applause

Im not sure. Dont go messing around inside the power supply cause there are capacitors or something in there that can zap you even with the power unhooked. Id hate for you to get electrocuted.

OH yeah, he's right
I made taht mistake.
But then, I made alot of mistakes with my old comp. LOL
screwdriver + shoving it into power sup = zap
I was attempting to replace the old one which burnt out.
(every so often, you should be using the air spray to clear out the dust in your comp btw)
