In the United States, today is Administrative Assistant Day. It's a new name for the old Secretarial Day where our bosses try to show appreciation in one day for what we do for them all year long.
My boss never recognizes the day. I've been here almost 5 years and she has yet to even say thank you for all the work I do. In essence, she really doesn't have to say thank you cause I get paid for doing the job, but once again, a little kindness could go a long way.
It's the first place I've worked where I wasn't shown appreciation. Of course, I'd rather be appreciated every day but since I work for an attorney, that's not going to happen.
Do you ladies in other countries have the same type of thing where your boss gives you a gift, flowers, or takes you to lunch, or just says "thank you"?

Just to let you know... my boss never makes a big deal out of it either. It's not that he's not appreciative, it's just his personality. We all know that he cares in the day-to-day things he does for each of us.
This year, he was 'guilted' into "participating". He's not here today... had a meeting at another campus. One of the other supervisors made the vases up for us & brought them down. And she also provided the 'goodies'.

Does she show her appreciation at all during the rest of the year? If so, I wouldn't worry about her not showing it on the designated day. If not, then what a b**ch.

You're appreciated, Snuggs.
Not a bit! Nada! Never!
If she was appreciative I wouldn't care about today but I'm seeing all the other gals get flowers and hearing their bosses make time to take them to lunch.

I had a boss like that snuggs. To this day, I call her "The boss from HELL". And she truthfully was. She lived each day to make her assistant's life miserable. No, I wasn't the only one she'd done it to. She went through 5 assistants in 4 years. She would purposely do things to make me look incompetant, incapable, & actually tried to make me look like I was LOSING it!
I emailed the assistant she had before me & asked if it was just me or was she always like that. Her reply was, "Well, let's just say that I don't go home crying anymore." That was my answer. It wasn't personal. She was just a jealous, miserable, lonely b*tch.
After that, I set out to find a new job. Ironically, my current boss called me & I hadn't even remembered applying for the job! It was surely a blessing in disguise!
I'd kept in contact with the assistant who took my place for a while. She ended up seeing a psychiatrist & on antidepressants. Soon after, I found out that my previous supervisor quit to go to... now get ready for this.....

"Most" of my employers have always been gracious enough to express how much they appreciate my work ethics and performance. Which outweighs the ones that didn't. Everyone deserves to be appreciated for their hard work and dedication, unless they are just a sloth.
