I take my hat off and shake there hand with pride, to all diggers, soldiers, servicemen and ex servicemen that have defended or are defending in someway our great nation handshake bowing thumbs up

I for one will never forget how they have given so unselfishly to often down to the ultimate price. if i have children i will be certain that they understand the cost of there freedom that others have paid for it and will instill in them the respect, admiration and pride i and any decent australian has for them and that they never forget it and pass it to there children also.

thelovecats1: i'm a radical left-wing sort of thinker. i have no respect for organisations such as the RSL and the ADF. these organisations are full of pro-American conservative right-wing religious warmongers who idiotically worship a bloodstained Aussie rag. occasions like today mean nothing to me. the people who celebrate such occasions don't speak for me.

and to you ya knob jockey, people like u should be rounded up and sent to a current war zone, then as u are so against war feel free to approach the enamey armed or unarmed as u please to explain ur views to them. then after they fill u full of holes and in ur next life u might come back a better person and with a backbone also.........

Why don't you leave then if it bothers you so much? Do you really think any country is innocent of atrocity in any form, do you think any establishment with any authority is free from corruption? Compared to some regimes, our government both past and present is soft. You need to wake up and learn to appreciate how good you have it here. We are indeed the lucky country in a lot of respects. australia

I love Australia. heart beating

I'd like to add that ANZAC day is not a celebration. There are no bells and whistles, cake cutting or fireworks. It's a day set aside for all to reflect on the horrors that our servicemen and women have endured and to affirm and reaffirm for each generation and the thousands of migrants that come to this country every year that war on any front is always a last resort and it holds no glory. Lest we forget.australianewzealand

I'd like to add that you don't know what you are talking about. drinking

celebrate: To observe (a day or event) with ceremonies of respect, festivity, or rejoicing.

If you're not sure what a word means... look it up, you fool.

Settle down, I was refering to the context in which it was used by that Lovecats tool from Tasmania. And in any case, I think commemorate would be a better word to describe what we do on ANZAC day.

commemorate: remember something ceremonially: to honor the memory of somebody or something in a ceremony
a service held to commemorate the dead.

And here's the MS Works definition of celebrate: show happiness at something: to show happiness that something good or special has happened by doing such things as eating and drinking together or playing music
I told them about my promotion, and we went out to celebrate.
a noisy crowd of fans celebrating the victory.

Fool??

I think the definitions here are close enough to the mark. You celebrate ANZAC day if you like but I'll commemorate it. And if you've got anything else to say on the matter send me an E-mail.
