thelovecats1: i'm a radical left-wing sort of thinker. i have no respect for organisations such as the RSL and the ADF. these organisations are full of pro-American conservative right-wing religious warmongers who idiotically worship a bloodstained Aussie rag. occasions like today mean nothing to me. the people who celebrate such occasions don't speak for me.

and those remarks would also indicate that you would not be the type of person with what it takes to make the ultimate sacrifice , for a brighter future or others. therefore ultimately selfish.

i wish you well in your search for a partner here on cs, because you just blew a massive hole in any chance of finding mates.

elroyredbear: perhaps u would have prefered our fore fathers lay down there arms and let who ever walk right on in,the japanese or germans we would certainly not be enjoying the same freedoms that we have today..thank you to those have helped protect those freedoms

ummmm hate to pick points out BUT the anzacs were actually formed in WW1 when the BRITISH invaded TURKEY.......there was no direct threat to us in that war and the rhetoric that made mere kids sign up beause the governments 'glossed' over how they would be 'real heroes' if they were fighting 'for their country', when the whole while it was the english who wanted power over turkey (just like they had done in india, except in india were they were met with hinduistic values, and refused to fight back)......those poor kids that went to fight were sold up the river by thier government and the colonialist british, AND THAT MAKES ME FURIOUS
very mad
and when i get up at dawn each anzac day morning, and for my minutes silence i pray for the lives lost and affected and i damn those governments to hell for doing that to those soldiers

that being said, WW2 different story.....we were threatened by the japanese of course, and perfect reason to fight back....

I GIVE CREDIT AND THANK GOD FOR ALL THAT SOLDIERS DO WHO HAVE TO GO TO WAR, BUT HAVE MUCH DISDAIN FOR GOVERNMENTS WHO PUT THEM THEREaustralia

Class as always. I refuse to let shallow minds impact on a thread, that indeed should be contributed too those who gave their lives, so we could live better ones. wine

australia A day of rememberance and gratitude, thoughts and respect for the men and woman the citizens and soldiers that have served , protected and stood for the rights for justice, peace and humanity. Today is a day of rememberance for those who have served and fallen in times of war more and as much for those who fell during Gallipoli.. Today Australians and their families honor their memories and contributions. Today is Anzac Day a day of rememberance... sad flower

In response to: So its 2:00am in the morning and its time to get ready for Dawn parade, who else is going to dawn sevice? In remembrance of those who paid the ultimate price for freedom

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget."

There were circa 16 million dead from World War 1 which started in the Balkans, not as a result of British colonial expansion.

Britain had treaty obligations which it did not shirk and so entered the war, committing about 5 1/2 million troops - of those, circa 3/4 million were killed and circa 2 million wounded.

It is right and proper that all those who fought for the freedoms we have ( or supposedly have..... ) are never forgotten.
