gingerb: He applied for bar work, the cousin that is, in a local hotel where my brother just happened to be the head barman. He said his name was Carlos mc Daid and my brother remarked how his mother's family had that name, and they got talking and turned out to be cousins.

My brother then introduced him to the rest of us. He worked here for about 5 years and then went back to Argentina, where he married and now lives. My brother is hoping to go see him later this year and meet the rest of the family, and take lots of pics for us.

When I was living in Kenya many years ago, I met cousins there too. I also have ones in New Zealand, and Australia and America and Canada, some of whom I have never met.

My grandfather was one of 13 brothers and 4 sisters.......They got about a bit.

Hi ginger, the name made me laugh. And what a way to discover this cousin of yours.

And I thought Italians spread themselves across the globe!help

It's so good to hear of others' stories of family skeletons!laugh

Steevyv: Hi,
my grandfather, as it was custom here in those days, was in States trying to make some money. At the beginning family from time to time got letters and money from him and than everything in a mysterious way stopped.
An it lasted for years.
Everybody thought that something bad happened to him.
Than one day, here he is, knocking on a doors.
And loaded. Full of money.
He newer explained where was he during this period.
Later, some rumors said that he was in Sing Sing for a couple of years because he and his companion, one Polak, well guys had their own distillery and production of whiskey.
The fact is that this mysterious period started in the era of prohibition and lasted for a couple of years later, but I think that that was only ugly gossip. I am sure that my grandpa couldn't be a criminal in any way for the reason that his father ,a man who gave him education, was a respected busyness man who had a company that worked on both sides of frontier between Croatia and Bosnia, had on his payroll all chiefs, policeman and gendarmes on both sides, and he newer slept two nights at the same place.

Hi Stevvv, That's quite a feat, to have defied what no doubt would have been a fair bit of interrogation from different family members, all attempts at extracting any such information from him.

It must have been so difficult to keep moving location each night. Did you ever find out why?

They say the same about the Maltese....if all the Maltese from abroad, came back to Malta, it would be standing room only and the island would sink into the sea.....wow
