Tommyutah: I love camping. I live in a beautiful state to do alot of camping and backpacking. I'm not so much into camping at a designated camp sight. I would much rather put what I need in my backpack and hike out several miles out into the wilderness. Camping out in the wild by yourself is a rush. To feel the solitude and to feel the adrenaline rush of pure solitude is something that I can recommend highly. I lived 6 years in Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park here in Utah. Being in such a remote place in the US and watching the stars and the Milkyway is really a sublime experience. I would say one of my best experiences in the wild was Kayaking the Escalante River. It took me 6 days to go 110 miles all the way into Lake Powell. The Escalante River was the last major river to be disovered in the lower 48 by white men.
The great outdoors is really something that I will always treasure and always will. Hiking and exploring places and to have a sense of discovery of what is around the corner is something that I will do till the day I die.
Seeing wildlife in it's enviroment and watching and listening to the tree's the wind and wildlife is an exzilerating experience. Its always a good thing to leave the comfort of your own home and set out on an adventure. It always recharges my batteries!!
You definitely live in one of the most beautiful places in the world for camping! I lived in Ogden and Clearfield for many years, and did a lot of camping while there. We went up Ogden Canyon to a bunch of different places, and camped a lot in the High Uintas by Washington Lake... where you can almost touch the stars! The meteor showers in August always found us camping and watching stars fall until it was too light to see them anymore! Breathtaking beauty there in Utah~ you're a lucky man!
webbs: I haven't been camping in a long time, but I just went to a campfire last night. My brother has a pop-up camper that he leaves up in his back yard all summer. He has a fire pit and cookouts every weekend. He & his wife sleep in the camper. He figures he has it and can leave it idle until their 2 week camping trip or use it all summer long. He chooses to use it and there is nothing like the smell of the fire, good cooking, and conversation with family & friends. My brother and I usually end up staying out until the fire is done, looking at the stars and just sitting quietly and thinking. It truly is an amazing time.
A Camp fire is a circle that warms the body and the Heart...When you set by the fire with friends it is a most wonderful feeling, sitting there untill the coals burn down.
sassy49senior: This is the tent I slept in on my last camping trip. We spent a couple of days at one of the pow-wows. Had coolers full of food and bottles of water and a fan. Enjoyed good conversation when there were breaks from dancing. Of course mooneyes was a great attraction for kids. They were all very interested in how he became blind.
I know I have lived in the city all my life except for maybe three years of it, And I was young. But I remembered the smells, and the people I was with. I never forgot.
gooddogman: I have camped in the Black Kettle of Oklahoma in the winter Brrrrr. It is so nice when you can get away from the hiway noise. and listen to nothing but your own breathing...Peace and quite....
prairiewoman: One of my favorite things about competing in rodeo were the campfires every night (okay, and the rodeo dances).
I'll put on the camp coffee and get the marshmallows...
I can hear the horses snorting and the russel of hay the voices around the camp fire. I like trail riding, I once went 4 months NY to TX..we also had 20 mules camped all the way...

Even if people have only camped in their back yard they never forget the enjoyment of being outside at night with their friends talking around the fire. I have camped in the Rockys and in my back yard once your by that fire you feel safe and free.

Good Morning, Here is a tin cup of cowboy coffee hot off the campfire Mooneyes was found in a snowdrift by my ex before I was with him. He was blind when Nick found him, hence the name Mooneyes. We could not let him run loose unless it was right in the yard where we were very close and he could hear our voices to get back to us. Other than that he got along great.

Now that would have been my kind of trail ride a few years back. Our longest was only 3 days moving the cattle from one place to another. Two nights camping and bsing around the fire and damn it would get cold so that firw felt mighty fine.
Very Nice Tent. You hear the one This is a Tee Pee to take a Pee Pee not a Wig Wam to beat your Tom Tom .. I went on a cttle drive in SD once. It sure makes you respect the REAL cowboys. I am off to VA to see the Grdbaby tomorrow I hope I'll beable to take her camping in a few years. Keep a look out for those Pheasants, maybe will get a chance to do some camping and hunting this fall. What made Mooneye go blind...
I had a great big tent with 2 big rooms and three attatched bedrooms. But for health reasons it was getting to be too hard to put it up and take it down.
So I bought one of those tents that you just throw into the air and it falls to the ground all ready to stake into place.
ladyfingers: I used to camp out at my grandmothers camp on her screened in porch...does that count?
Actually the last time I went camping, it was to take 15 girls so that they could earn their camping badge. OMG, what a nightmare.
You are a brave soul....yes, camping on the porch counts but you have to replace the camp fire with a candle. Just harder to toast the marshmellows....
gooddogman: My ear get cold when I am outside in my sleeping bag maybe some Morgans spiced rum would warm them.. What are midges are they black flys ? in Florida they have NO See'ems Their hard to see an bite. I love to set around the camp fire and watch the embers glow.... I Hope to teach the grand kid there is more to life than TV Cellphones and computers...
Morgans spice and coke will warm all the parts of you're body gooddogman, ears will be on fire.. Have you never heard of the Scottish midge..oh lawd i would exterminate the lot of the little blood stealers, there are certain parts of Scotland that i wouldnt visit because they are so bad, im itching just thinking of them..remind me that there is more to life too...
"For me,it's been awhile since I enjoyed a nice campfire.I haven't been out camping since my day passed in 2005.It just seems like the will to enjoy the land has been taken away. And,I tried to get out there this spring but, it's just too hard..emotionally speaking. I miss the talks we'd have together, the moments that only we can call our own as father and daughter. I have children (teenagers) who love the land; I guess it's about time to start truly enjoying what's out there for us to enjoy."

A bunch of us were sitting around a campfire and it started to rain, most people would have headed indoors but we didn't although the guitar may have gone under a cover for a bit. It was a drizzle and a light one, we all got out our oilskin coats and went back to the fire. A fresh pot of coffee went on and we continued with our evening. Besides, the fire was built up just perfectly and we hardly noticed the rain.
That campfire smoke and the fresh smell of the rain, the odd snort of a nearby horse grazing contentedly - love it!
