the recession plays a big part, with the price of drinks now, no one wants to go out as much, hence not as much of an opportunity for pulling

So, without being able to get to a bar and have a drink you are not in a position to "pull"??

Its not a critisism, just a question. Surely you dont need to go out to a bar/pub/club to be able to "pull"...dunno

Plenty of other places to meet girls, surely?

I agree, to an extent, yes.

But I think a guy as good looking as you should have no trouble finding a date, if he so chose..

The amount of people who start chatting to people in supermarkets, shops in general, walking in the park, etc is amazing. I've heard of it, and know that it happens..

If all else fails, ask to borrow your neighbour's baby, walk down the street looking stressed, and you will have the ladies flocking to you...

RubyTuesday1: Good post

Thank you!

I suppose I'm just thinking of my own experiences, I would never have used an online dating site even 5 years ago. Why people would in their 20s I don't know though that could be more to do with their libidos than with finding their other halves!

mrmysteri0us: I think it depends on your age. The younger you are the less relevant online dating is because a lot of folk around you in work/college, pubs, social circle etc will also be single.

However, I find the older I get the more and more women I meet are already in relationships and I get more tired of going to pubs and clubs.

It's tough to met that mythical 'special someone' in any arena of life and online is no different. The only advantages I think are that at least you know those on dating sites are single and looking (or they should be otherwise what's the point?!).

That's my tuppence anyhow.

That's a fair point and it certainly explains why so few people my age are here. However it is not that easy for all of us. I generally avoid clubs or very packed pubs as I don't like them and my social life normally is based around the radical left political scene. Very few women my age to be found there and those who are are usually spoken for.

In college my social life revolved around drama and any nice girls there were spoken for.

Yes it is probably easier for our age, but not in all cases. I'm 26 and have been single for.. Well, all my life. Without wanting to play the victim here, for those of us who think outside the box and don't embrace the pub/club scene, finding a woman is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I hear you mate re pubs and clubs which I have always found boring. Though I suspect very few people actually meet their other halves randomly in a pub, they simply use it for dutch courage to make a move on someone they already are attracted to.

Anyway, a way to answer the original question is to look at friends/ relations/ workmates who are married or are in long term relationships and see how they met their other halves.

From my experience, the odds aren't great. Only 1 guy I know met his wife through a dating site, and another at a get-together from a dating site.

Nobody I know met through a random meeting in a pub/ club.

A few were set up/ introduced by friends.

The bulk met in school, college or work.

What's it like for other people?
