I got a whatamethingy .. loaded the drivers .. plugged it in as per instructions and it's being recognised ..ie it states, 'available wireless connection' .. I go to networks and make a new wireless connection as per instructions on a given sheet .. authentication etc etc .. follow to the letter .. but ..

then just a whole load of nuttin' .. I look at the log and it says the information is wrong .. 'authentication incorrect' .. but here's the rub .. I come to the library .. use the same inf to log onto the same network and hey presto .. works fine .. umm .. confused

so anyone got any ideas? .. problem is I work when the IT guys are around .. so I can't ask them ..help

Hi guiri wave

I'm not an expert with these technical things, not even close, but when I had problem with my wifi at first, I called up my internet provider on an 0800 number, they looked into my connection, and voila! it was fixed in a jiffy. I don't know how it works in the UK, though..

Ah, ok. Same thing at work for me .. always IT guys doing this stuff .. you just use the one you're using now since you are in the same place anyway .. just wait for those precious IT guys - they'll do their magic quickly. It will be working before you know it. beer

the one I want to use is in my room tho' .. more comfortable than the library .. and I'll be able to listen to songs there ..

hoping somebody who knows about wifi will see the post ..

the curious thing is that when I enter my details on my laptop the system insists they are incorrect ,,, but the same details get me onto the library machines .. this is the main issue I think ..

You should be very thankful that it DOESN'T work! Those "wi/fi" transmitters send out a constant five volts of near micro-wave radiation for up to a hundred metres. The damage they're doing on the DNA level is extremely subtle, but is known to be causing a number of serious diseases in living organisms. That's why they're also being subtly advertised in lots of peak time crap series people are watching on their TVs (with no specific name brand, please note!). When I asked an expert in radar technology on this forum working for the British government whether he would have these devices in his own house around his children he refused to give me a direct answer. Take my advice and use cables instead!

I am not a specialist by any means but I had the same situation happen to me with wifi. Except that I did not try it at another place. What I did was use the CD rom provided with the hardware and reinstalled it. It worked. Since then it has happened that I got no connection about 20 times and every time I reinstalled it it worked again. My son who is a computer programmer said this could not have anything to do with it. But why does it always work when I reinstall it then?
There is a saying in Belgium and that is "The doors in a carpenters house hang crooked" Thats means that if you know somebody that has knowledge (ie my son) closely you hardely get the problems solved through them.
uh oh Nothing to do with your problem laugh
have a beer it helps

Why is that guy Murphy always right?
I actually don't even call it Murphy's law I call it Edwards law. I know the guy so well I figured I should be on a first name basis with him. So I looked it up.rolling on the floor laughing

hey dude,

seems your OS has memorized wrong passwords, or smth in which case you might need to format or hack.
otherwise, maybe if you're on the x network and it provides a net connection, define that in your system.
or maybe it doesnt and its a server thing
i usually try to copy settings from a sorted computer when i get one online, which is why i use 2-3 different ones every installation, so finding someone whos wifi works is allways a start.

so many things can go wrong!
if i was u i'd back up, format, and reinstall, before anything else, maybe if you do it from scratch, the by the book thingy will work better (with no conflicts from other stuff you might have installed)

you need to find out what encryption they are using, eg. WEP WPA WPA2 etc... then get the encryption key from someone, if you know where the router is look underneath it it will be there.

failing that find out who the administrator is, prolly a techy and get it from him, failing that find someone else who is using a lappy and get it from them.

if you do find someone ask to look in there network connections / properties etc.

also go to the above and delete the wifi details you have and start again, sometimes lappys play games and dont connect for one reason or another... same IP as someone else or sumink.

failing that email a techy tell him ya problem and wait for him to email the encryption key to ya.

hope this helps, came across ya blog and quickly replied, on my way out for the nite...
