RE: my best friend for 10 years ' the alcoholic ' died today from cirosis of the liver

I'm sorry if you feel annoyed, Smoky, and to other fellow members who feel the same way.

The way it was said and seeing that word, "the alcoholic", describing his best friend, I found it so disrespectful and disloyal.. and it touched a raw nerve in me. There was no explanation or anything other than the crying emoticon and I thought it hypocritical.

I never put the blame on Gilly for not being able to help his friend. I know that it's only the person himself who can do anything about it. I also have an uncle who died of liver cirrhosis and we watched him drink himself to death unable to do anything. We never discussed or even mentioned it in the family out of respect for my cousins and their loss.

There is an amazing lady ..
and there is this wonderful man ..

She is a burning candle ..
and he is her golden candlestick

For Betty and Wooffy:

May your union always be blessed with love good luck

RE: One of our friends in hospital ....

Very funny, Mike.

RE: Where is the coffee shop these days???

Thanks, Wooffy. hug

I wonder what happened to Marti.. and that waiter with a bedimpled smile. I hope they're okay.

RE: Where is the coffee shop these days???

Well, not that much, Wooffy. I just had a crown done on one of my smaller molars and it only costed me more than EUR600. So I could understand the thunderstorm that Smoky had to witness afterwards.

Ja, Wooffy, you gonna tell me press 'ALT, 0128' for Euro sign laugh

RE: my best friend for 10 years ' the alcoholic ' died today from cirosis of the liver

I hate that ..

RE: my best friend for 10 years ' the alcoholic ' died today from cirosis of the liver

Well, you do as you please, Guiri. You don't have to insist on telling us what to think or to do ourselves. Just like you are, we are entitled to our own opinion. You have offered your condolences, be it. In my case I won't because I don't think he deserves it. If I do, that will be total hypocrisy and I cannot tolerate that, least of all from myself.

RE: my best friend for 10 years ' the alcoholic ' died today from cirosis of the liver

Probably ... Gilly, the best friend, would be best qualified to know what his friend would appreciate. But since he posted it in an open forum, we are free to say what we think about it. And I said, "IF I WERE HIS BEST FRIEND" and I mean if I were in his best friend's shoes.

For me, if my best friend is an alcoholic, even if he is still alive, I will be the first one to be discrete about it. When he dies, I will not be proclaiming it to the world that he, "the alcoholic" died of the effects of his addiction? In honor of his memory, I will be quiet about it and never even mention it to anyone. For me doing otherwise will be a complete betrayal of friendship and trust.

And as for using his death as a warning to others, don't you think people here are so dumb not to know about what the effects of alcoholism are on a person?

People who drink do not stop drinking because they are told somebody died of liver cirrhosis. They know that! People with alcohol addiction drink because they have a problem, something is troubling them that they cannot get rid of, so they drink because they want to drown their blues away. And people like them need love and understanding, not a sermon or a lecture. I could say more, but I stop here ..

RE: I arrived home this evening, back in my beloved mountains...

Yeah, and a very good golfer, too. He was just in the Flanders Nippon Golf yesterday ... a real winner! wave

Have a good trip, Sommer.

Best of luck for the British Open.

RE: Love songs for all you romantics.

I have to go to bed early tonight, but before I go to slumberland, here's one of our best songs, with one of our best Belgian singers, and the Belgian weather with it: IK MIS JE ZO

. Jongens.. jongens, I really miss the Belgian weather now ..

Slaapwel kiss

RE: my best friend for 10 years ' the alcoholic ' died today from cirosis of the liver

You know, Gilly, I have to tell you this ..

If I were your best friend and I die .. and you start proclaiming to the world that I, your best friend, was an alcoholic and I died because of its effects, I would not appreciate it at all. I would come back and haunt you in your dreams, shake your bed, turn the lights on and off, open and bang the door, turn the TV on full blast .. until you scream..

And I would appear before you with a blanket over my head and tell you, "Gosh, Gilly, man, everybody knows what alcoholism is and what effect it has. It's not exactly very flattering what you are doing. You don't have to rub it in, mate.. I'm already 6 feet under the ground.."

Anyways, I am not your best friend and you are not my best friend, so that's already a good thing.

Your best friend must have been a very sad and troubled person who was unable to find a reason good enough to rid himself of his addiction. And that I feel sorry about ..

RE: I arrived home this evening, back in my beloved mountains...

Hi there. Yes, I know what you mean ..

When I started to be on my own after more than 20 years of marriage, I was scared and felt terribly alone. But after a while, I got so used to the place that it became my home -- where I am most comfortable in, where I can be totally myself to do as I please, and all the familiar things are there at my disposal.

I also enjoy being away for a while, but there's nothing like a place you can go home to, where you feel most at peace with yourself and the world .. and where you can rest your soul.

Welcome home, Sommer.

RE: Love songs for all you romantics.

And now, my friends, some Finnish rock & roll yay

Let's rock head banger

RE: Why do we "need" partners.....?

How nicely said, Sass wave

Like you said, it's not always a need -- as you can also be happy alone with other things -- but it's a desire to make life even more colourful.

Friends and family will not always be there with you, as they also have their own lives to live -- when they have a partner of their own. They will be there for you, but not always..

RE: Why do we "need" partners.....?

That was funny, Wooffy laugh

Kidding aside, I would agree with Kidatheart.. the first part, especially. There is nothing better than to have someone to love and who loves you back to share your life with.

You can have as much friends as you want, as much family around you, success in the job and a fat bank account -- but it's never the same happiness you feel when you have a partner you love with you on your side -- someone who is always there for you and with you, no matter what.

Of course, there has to be mutual love and respect; otherwise, it will just be more trouble than it's worth. You'll just end up more miserable then. I know that you could still feel lonely even when you're with someone, when it's the wrong person.

Good night rose

RE: One of our friends in hospital ....

rolling on the floor laughing You're bad, Wooffy. Can't you think of anything better?

This one, for example?

Conrad will start dancing in no time laugh

RE: Where is the coffee shop these days???

Heyy Wooffy wave

It does not have any hidden meaning - don't delve deeper into it. It cannot say "All drunk men are dead" so it says "All dead men are drunk" laugh doh

Actually, it's for some friends of ours who like drinking a bit too much.. hey, take it easy there

I can't drink more than a couple of glasses of wine -- I get tipsy already after that.

Love Poems for all you Romantics

A Drunken Man's Praise Of Sobriety

by William Butler Yeats

Come swish around, my pretty punk,
And keep me dancing still
That I may stay a sober man
Although I drink my fill.
Sobriety is a jewel
That I do much adore;
And therefore keep me dancing
Though drunkards lie and snore.
O mind your feet, O mind your feet,
Keep dancing like a wave,
And under every dancer
A dead man in his grave.
No ups and downs, my pretty,
A mermaid, not a punk;
A drunkard is a dead man,
And all dead men are drunk.

RE: One of our friends in hospital ....

I say a prayer for you, Conrad.

Be well.

RE: THE NOSTALGIA THREAD ......

Yes, my sister also saw that movie and she loved it.

Sorry to hear about your bestest bestest friend. hug Well, you can still communicate all the time. Technology has made it so easy now to communicate with anyone in any part of the world in just a few seconds, don't you agree?

Here's a song I used to sing with my sister when she's playing the guitar, when we were young .. oh, how time flies .. now I'm all wrinkled with weak knees ..crying

RE: Who's Busy!!??

True, Tulefel, true.. hi there wave

Having a good job is liberty. It can provide you for everything you need and some little luxuries from time to time that makes life a treat.

You don't have to depend on anyone for your own living and you can quit any relationship when it no longer serves you and it does not give you any happiness. And most of all, you don't have to settle for just any one other than a person you really want to share your life with.

It's sweet freedom at its best!thumbs up

RE: Who's Busy!!??

Heyy Lagowave

Also a very busy period at work .. two people down -- one retired and one terminated due to incessant depression - and they are not being replaced, so more job for everyone.

But the good thing about being employed is that you are entitled to more than 25 days of leave a year and you are free to use it anytime you want as long as there's somebody left in the office. Summer, of course, is the most favorable time to take a vacation. I'm now again taking one more week time off work and another one next month, so it's nicely spread out thru the season.

When I go back, there's more work as ever, but in the meantime, I just forget all about it. You know what they say, all work and no play ... here, take a break cheers

RE: Love songs for all you romantics.

For you, Wooffy. There is always hope, my friend. Have faith hug

Good night

RE: Where is the coffee shop these days???

Heyy, Wooffy wave Hope you had a nice day. Did some swimming?

Love Poems for all you Romantics

LOVE SONNET XVII

by Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were a salt rose, or topaz
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
So I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Love Poems for all you Romantics

Hello Immahug I'm doing well, thank you. I just came from The Netherlands. We went to Delft, Den Haag, and spent most of the afternoon in Scheveningen. Beautiful weather! The only problem is that my nose looks now like a ripe tomato .. cherry tomato grin

Hope you're okay, too. It must be sad seeing your students go after the end of a school year. But believe me, so do they when they have to leave their favorite teacher. Everybody always has one they adore.

Yes, your poem has such a message of hope. I've always believe in all those things.
