I sometimes read on people's profiles that they like walking in the rain. I wonder how many actually DO that...walk in the rain. I don't mean those times when you step outside because you HAVE to go somewhere and you immediately pop open the umbrella and hurry to your destination. I mean a total drenching, just feeling the rain beat down on you, no umbrella, no hurry, and you just get soaked from head to toe. Today I did just that. I was walking with a friend and it started raining. Big fat raindrops, gradually becoming a downpour. Neither of us had an umbrella, we were in shorts, t-shirts, and sandals, and we were about a 20-minute walk from our homes. We could have ducked into a coffee shop or stood under an overhang, waiting for it to let up, but I asked her when was the last time she had walked in the rain...we looked at each other, grinned, and proceeded to walk. I arrived home totally soaked, but felt absolutely wonderful. I haven't done that for so many years and it felt great.
Anyway, it was a nice reminder to myself to just let loose now and then and enjoy doing some of those things that we say we like to do, but seldom truly do.

Does YOUR profile say that you like a particular thing but you haven't really done that thing in a long, long time? What is it and what are you waiting for?

I quit waiting a few years ago for anything to happen. I started enjoying each moment. I believe today I am not the person I was then!!!

By the way it has been raining for about 14 hours here in Mitchell South Dakota. I did go out and run some chores in the rain and enjoyed it.

I'm not sure if men will automatically appreciate what it's like for a woman to walk in the rain and allow herself to get drenched. Between the wet hair, trying to protect the contents of my purse, and a t-shirt plastered to my body (not white, thankfully!), actually ENJOYING the rain beating down on me was a refreshing sensation. very happy

Awesome, J...and it sounds like a very cleansing experience as well. And I don't mean like a shower for the body, but one for the soul. I think tomorrow I'm going on the trail hike that I so badly need, and haven't done for the past few days because of the rainy weather...and if I get wet, so be it. It is supposed to rain again.

I just have to remember to wear footgear that won't get ruined by the rain...something other than the Birks I'm living in. laugh

I have stood out on a fire escape kissing in the rain, with neither of us caring that we got soaking wet. I was 18. I'd love to do that again some day.

What I haven't done lately that I need to do is meditate. That's part of what the trail walk is about...my favorite trail begins the meditation, and then I sit and really do so when I get to the cave. And yes, I've done this walk in the rain, in the snow, etc. And I need to do it again. I'm in need of centering myself and getting back into balance within, especially after all of the events of the past couple of weeks. I feel a bit lost lately...out of tune. I need to take a couple of days just for me, and get back to me. Maybe even turn off my phone.

hug

The only thing that really bothers me about it now is that my glasses get drenched and I have nothing non-scratchy to dry them with if my t-shirt is also soaked. laugh doh

I don't have make-up to worry about, and I certainly don't worry about this wash-and-go hair...but the open purse I carry would be a problem in your situation, yes. wine

Neighborhood kids and I use to play football almost every week. We did this well into our teen years. Sometimes we played in the rain. I would do it again. Good memories. daydream joy

Some of the best walks I've had have been in the New forest in England in the Autumn when the deer are rutting and baying. As you tread carefully through the wet forest and see the deer peeping through the trees and the young bucks challenging each other is a sight to behold. The hinds all huddling together waiting for the huge stags to perform their defense of their territory with their antlers poised is just magnificent.

We were lucky enough to see an Albinoo stag once which is very rare. How I long to be back there. Thanks for stirring up a long forgotten pleasure.wave

I stood in the rain today...

There was a severe weather warning and we had a tremendous thunder storm. When the lightening stopped it was still raining very heavily. I went outside and closed my eyes, looked up and just stood in the pouring rain...

Theres something about that which makes you feel part of nature, it was amazing

happy place

I absolutely love walking in the rain, but unfortunately we haven't had rain for a long time. It sprinkled today and I went out and stood on the sidewalk....does that count?
