What's the atttraction to alcohol and cigarettes? I know both are quite popular with a number of people. Some people like a beer or two, some wine and some like cigarettes. I know in excess both can be bad for you health wise. I neither smoke nor drink(unless at the odd wedding or birthday party). I have no attraction to either. I've never smoked, had any peer pressure to smoke or ever wanted to experiment with smoking. As for as alcohol goes it pretty much the same, if I never had a drop of alcohol it wouldn't matter to me. What is interesting is that I was exposed to alcohol at a young age, being given small sips, and I lived with a grandparent that both smoked and drank. Yet I never developed any cravings or desires for either of these things. So I guess this question is for those who indulge, what do you find most enjoyable about cigarettes and alcohol?wine

Ah, wine, it’s a love affair for me, to smell the scent and discern all the flavours that come forth, wild blackberry, oak, pepper or maybe apple, sometimes you can even smell herbs like cinnamon or ginger, all this before you even taste it.
No two wines are the same, even when from the same grape as the rain, water, soil, way and when its harvested all contribute to the final flavour.

Beer is good for getting dead bugs of the cars windscreen

I grew up in situations where I was
exposed to alcohol and cigarettes.
But,I never consumed alcohol or smoked
cigarettes until I was in my teens.
I had a great time as a teenager,
living a carefree life.

As I went from a teenager to motherhood,
I realized that these,I didn't need in my life.
I quit smoking and drinking (alcohol) for years.

It's only since the passing of my dad
that I started smoking cigarettes again (strange I know)
and have had the occasional sip on a beer or wine, although rarely.

Hi Taino,

Not in a million years could a smoker describe to a non-smoker what the buzz is when you inhale the smoke off that smoke you've been cravin':

It's like:
-delicious chocolate
-scrunching your feet in the warm sand on a beach
-reaching that itch on your back finally
-kisses all over
-waking up early and realizing it is Saturday morn' and you don't need to get up

Darn, darn, darn...why is it that I quit 6 months ago???? Darn you Lago!!!frustrated

Taino...hard to describe, but glad I quit

Drinking on the other hand.....well that is easy, it makes me dance better!!!
dancing

Rum till you die eh? Well good for you. Hopefully you won't have bad liver when you die too.laugh But nothing beats a good Cherry Wine - not for drinking though, for soaking those fruits for a good Christmas fruit cake. thumbs up

i quit drinking cause i stink at it, i think i became aware of this at about age 4o. oddly enough, unlike most, being grown and knowledgable i started smoking at about the same age 40.

i enjoy cigs or i wouldn't smoke. i'm also addicted to them so i'm not particularly objective. i like the smell when they are fresh. i like the feeling of something akin to satisfaction that they provide(though temporary). it's relaxing to know i have 7 full minutes to finish tht cig before moving on to my next project.

just my thoughts

bliss

Im not sure there is any attraction with either substance. My mum smoked rolling tobacco so somehow I quite like the smell of that but I figure thats because of the memories associated with it. I don't like men to drink at all but I can handle it as long as they stay polite, same with women. The key thing for me is that you can remain in control of yourself - using either is fine as long as your body is not addicted to it, and if you cant hae it you dont turn into a monster.

umm...ok

I love drinking-liquor over beer because I like mixed drinks-but i like my tequila mostly straight.I like to indulge with alcohol because it tastes good to me-it relaxes me after a hard day-and I can be pretty funny when I'm drunk.....

Why I don't drink much anymore-I come from alcoholics and am afraid to let myself be one....

Cigarettes-that's is altogether different. I was pressured when a few of my best friends smoked-I was 14 of course it was peer pressure-my mother had died and I was rebelling...now though I like to smoke-I like the taste and the smell.....

Why do I say I like these things-because the nicotine in cigarettes actually changes your neurotransmitters to believe it. Nicotine releases serotonin and endorphins that make you associate smoking with pleasure-as you will hear from smokers "I'm so stressed I just need a smoke" well yes but actually nicotine makes you more stressed when it starts to deplete. Smoking is awful I wished I never started-I have chronic asthma and chronic bronchitis and my doctor told me if I don't quit I could get COPD or have to be on oxygen and I'm too young...so I quit-sort of....

Anyone who says I'm not addicted I only smoke every once in awhile is a liar-The first drag you take affects your brain and the addiction begins....
