RobertC2: How can anybody condemn a person for wanting to move to another country to enable his/her family (this includes children!) have a better standard of living and a better future?

Many illegal immigrants are very brave people who risk their lives in the hope of a better future.

Many get caught and some succeed in making their dream come true.

How can we condemn somebody for at least trying even if we might decide it's not in our own interests to accept them with open arms?

I couldn't agree more with you Bobert....

No, we are generally homogenous.

Our demographic makeup is no different than other southern euro-mediterrenean countries, (Italy, Spain) much larger and less dense, but which are still finding it hard to cope with this influx.

This is getting out of control.

I dont care what bobert says or whoever, and you does not seem to know what is happening in the mediterrenean.

Its a continent in motion. We are being obliged to take every boat in. What do you expect that half of Africa fits in Malta. No way.

Make no mistake, immigration is not a Right.

Tonight I think I will stay out of this discussion - there are too many sides to the problem.

But I may come back sometime when I`m more capable of making an intelligent sounding posting................Something with mind blowing perspectives on this universal problem ......cheers

I didn't say it was...... those who get caught have to face the consequences of a country's immigration policy towards illegal immigrants............ just said I can't condemn somebody for trying.

I've always said that a tiny minority are almost almost welcomed.......... a sudden influx of a large minority becomes frightening and unwelcome to almost any population/culture.

One person walking down the street who is obviously from another culture doesn't pose a threat......... a group of a minority becomes a 'gang' in the eyes of others and becomes threatening.

Race does count because it obviously makes the minority a possible illegal immigrant and makes the individual stand out.

A single white man in a black country is going to want to be accepted............ a large group of whites will feel more secure and feel no need to fit in - and vice versa.

Not even intra-EU immigration is an automatic right. If a person cannot sustain himself, or is a burden on the receiving country, he can be sent back.

Try to get your facts right.

Fact stands that immigration, in general is no right.

In the EU, immigration is a right. Being employed is not a right. Is this better? I'm not obliged to employ you just because you are knocking my door, but you can freely and knock my door.

Non- Europeans Can also do the same. These ones have the right to immigrate but they might not fulfill the pre-requisites that support their sustainability.

Not true....Since 2002 here in sarkoland (and most of the other member states of the EU...)you are free to travel and work any where...Ok there are some exceptions like the newest members to the EU community. And when they 'pay into' the system they recieve the same benefits as everyone....

By the way, does Malta have African students? I doubt...Malta is so damn new to be known. That's why I say that it's a Port, the first thing that they come across to. I don't think they are looking forward to live in such a tropical country for the rest of their lives.
Nothing against Malta on this post.
