I wasn't going to do this thread but Ziva thought the people that supported Patty and me in the Pink Ribbon Marathon might like to know how the walk went.
Here it is guys...........
The walk started at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. It was raining in the morning but cleared up in the afternoon.
They walked 26 miles the first day and 13 miles the second day.
Patty developed shin splints which was extremely painful. They had doctors on site and she went to one. He said she should stop walking and she looked at him like "are you crazy". So she continued walking Saturday in pain. She was determined to make it to the finish line on Sunday.
She said when she was in the medical tent so many people came in that had bleeding blisters that couldn't continue walking.
Saturday night they slept in sleeping bags on the ground outside. She was in a lot of pain and around 2:30 a.m. and was cold. She had to get up to go to the bathroom and besides her joints being stiff it was 40 degrees outside.
Sunday she made it to the finish line and thought of her friend Lisa who had died of breast cancer.
I bought Patty a pink shirt and had Lisa's picture enlarged on the back of the shirt. Many people asked her about Lisa and Patty told them they worked together as police officers and were friends for 20 years.
The first thing Patty did when she got home was to take a hot bath. She has today off ....Columbus Day...because the police department gets it is a holiday. I'm sure she will be taking it easy and resting her leg.
So now the walk is over. In the Spring, there will be a Unity Tour which is a bicycle run. The Unity Tour services many organizations in particular fallen police officers. I imagine she will be bicycle training for that Tour in the near future.
Ahhhhhh, good job! I did the walk here in Athens on the 27th of September. It was the first time for the Race for the Cure to be in Greece and many, many people participated. For lack of a pink ribbon emoticon, I'll send the pink hearts to all those who have fallen victim to breast cancer.
And I'm glad she's getting to rest today. I think it would be a bad idea for a police officer to be on duty in such pain when it's so fresh. At least a day of rest will give it a chance to start healing well.
