bettyboop63: no what is it?..

Hi Betty,

Ubuntu is a free and more reliable alternative to microsoft windows.

you can download it from their website for free, and it is based on the Linux operating system, a much more safe, stable and more importantly non-proprietary sytem than microsoft.

dont be put off by the computer speak, it is a growing phenomenon, and aims to make safe operating systems freely available for all.

google it and find out more

If you have a secon computer or laptop, it might be worth trying....

if you are nervous abut it, why not search for your local 'Linux user group' and get some advice and help....

also a great way to meet really interesting guys

blushing

Hi Rub,

at the moment I have to run vista on my quad pc(eek dunno ) for video editing compatibility ( Adobe CS4 )

I have an acer aspire one, which runs linpus lite really well...so quick and simple....i use that for notes and text editing

my LG E500 is going to be ubuntu'd tomorrow, I can't wait for 'Karmic Koala'

ACER aspire one? Cool! I have one too! But I left the original XP that is running on it. It's my backup laptop, nice small and powerful little thing!!

I have not tried the built-in web cam have you?

I love it's portability but I must use a wireless mouse...the mouse pad drives me nuts!!

I created a nice little 3 ring binder notebook case for it!

Similar to this;

I did not know I was getting a laptop for work...now I have 4 of them!
confused laugh

grin cool

it came with linpus, and I love it....so quick to load....I really just use celtx on it.... a quick 'cd' and ./celtx and there I am....

I purposely have made myself avoid using mice.....and now it doesn't bother me....really..

I have used the webcam as I installed skype....its great....well sufficient....I port it with a robust (tiny) portable external of 250GB and what more can you want....

it fits in my bag nicely and i can take it out in a cafe and surf no probs....

put the latest distribution of ubuntu (download for free from their homepage....) and..............

I love it! Karmic Koala you are cool!

my poor laptop was grinding to a halt with the space taken up just by vista and the service packs and upgrades etc....

also the opera browser (as opposed to internet explorer in windows) has really come on leaps and bounds, with great integration for streaming etc...)...i even got it for my phone...

and.....now the beauty that is the economy of the linux system leaves me space to actually store files!

be great to hear from people just trying out ubuntu for the first time.....I know it's kinda scary to move over...especially if yu don't hae any experience or support in the background....but if you have a secondary pc or laptop just five it a go...or why not attend a linux user group one night in your area (google it!) and see what they're up to....they love windows converts.....
