Abram: Whew....so many questions, and my healthcare provider does know best, but there have been times I've preferred my own choices.

Do you really believe that they know best? If you do, why would you prefer your own choices? Are you smarter than they are?

Chemicals break down the Immune System. Do you know what the Immune System is and how it works?

Herbs are here to help us in the healing process. We want to treat the whole body for optimum health.thumbs up

HealthyLiving: I am very interested in the Health of the people of this world.
I wonder, how many of you make regular visits to see your doctor?
How well do you know your Doctor? Does he really listen to you when you speak to him? Or is he rushed and writing prescriptions as you speak?

Has your Doctor ever suggested that you make an effort to improve your health, such as exercise or changing your diet?
Does your health care facility provide means of education and classes for patients to learn Lifestyle Change? Have you gone to them, learned and made the required applications present in your life?

Are you taking prescribed medications for an illness or disease?
How much do you know about it?
Have you done any research on your drugs?
Have you researched studies which have been done?
Are you aware of the side effects and have you experienced any of them?
Have you seen your prescribed medications advertised on TV?
Have you ever been prescribed medications which were later,
pulled from the market?

Do you continue to take these meds, even though they may endanger your health, just because your Doctor told you that you need them? "Surely, my Doctor knows best and he would not give me anything that would harm me!"

HL

I rarely go to the doctor, and yes, I'm overdue since I haven't had health insurance for two years, and the year before that I was too busy dealing with my late husband's cancer to worry about my health. Thankfully, I'm very healthy. wine

I used to take a synthetic hormone for my thyroid, but now regulate it naturally with supplements and diet. The medical community will tell you that this can't be done, yet it's actually more effective than the hormone since rather than increasing one thyroid-regulating hormone, I'm actaully increasing all three. And yes, I know it's working, I can feel the difference.

Even before beginning my studies as a Doctor of Naturopathy I studied the drugs I took and would request something different if I didn't like the one being prescribed. Having a background as a nursing student and a medical assistant has helped me with that, too. I know that there are better alternatives for some drugs. Now I would really grill a doctor about a drug before I'd start taking one, and I'd eschew it completely for alternative therapies if they're available.

Oh, and I have been smarter than my own doctor. I had mine prescribe Dilaudid once telling the nurse it wasn't a morphine derivative. It's a hydromorphone, 1st generation morphine derivative, and she had to think for a moment as well and call him back. His response? "Does she know what she can take then?" doh

HealthyLiving: It is good to hear that Ali! As a Farmer, you also know the benefits of healthy eating, it gives you a Healthy Immune System!

Just as a car requires preventative maintenance, so do our bodies.

As I watched the U.S. Congress debate on Health Care reform, many ideas were exchanged concerning educating the people to change their lifestyle and diet. Republicans presented amendments in favor of including these programs in Health Reform, but the Democrats voted them down. It broke my heart to see a party with no regard for the health of the people of this nation. It was all a farce. If they truly cared about the people, they would want Wellness programs. Also, they would not have included the laws to fine and jail people who could not afford to pay their mandatory "tax" on Health Care. The Republicans asked to strike this from the bill, but were refused.

Enough of my ranting. People who REALLY care about you, get darn right MAD over this stuff!! I was glad to watch some of them take a stand and get mad for US!!

Let's get back on topic.
What kind of Drugs are you on??? I know that lots of you here on CS are taking Meds.

Not trying to get it OT again, but I agree with you completely on this, HL. It's a shame, and this "healthcare reform" bill sucks. Thank you for the extra information. hug wine

HealthyLiving: Ah, your Doctor seems to be just the kind of Doctor I am wanting to discuss here. He is busy writing his prescriptions to receive kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies. I just bet your meds are not even compatible and he has absolutely no idea that he is killing you with them! Have you researched them to see if you can take them together? A good place to start is

Many Doctors of Modern Medicine treat symptoms and not the whole body. It's like applying a band-aid on a cut and not finding out the source of the bleeding. That is why I prefer the Holistic approach. More on that later.

Most new drugs today receive FDA approval without being tested and without full knowledge of the side effects, nevermind compatibility with other meds. They're in a hurry now to approve them as fast as possible, and pull them later if they prove dangerous. It's just about money now, not our health. Read, people. Look into what's really happening out there now.

And learn how to manage your own health naturally. We can all do it because Mother Nature provided all that we needed to remain healthy, and the pharmaceutical companies don't want you to know that truth. wine

Fortunately I do not have to take any prescribed medication....I say fortunately because I dislike taking even over the counter pills, for headaches for example.

However, I´m also sceptical of the benefits of vitamin supplements. If one has a healthy diet they too are simply not necessary, and the strength of these supplements is usually not high enough to make a profound difference to one´s health.

I do agree with the OP though that people should take responsibility for their health and ask lots of questions if their doctor is suggesting any type of medication.

I agree with you Jan. I do not take prescription drugs, cold medicines, aspirin, nothing of the sort. I use lots of herbs and a healthy diet with fresh fruits, nuts and veggies and plenty of whole grain cereals and breads, lots of them home made. I also include all kinds of legumes and occasionally whole wheat pasta.

I take 1 oz. of Daily Complete, a liquid Organic botanical blend of 241 Vitamins, Minerals, Trace Minerals and Amino Acids as a dietary supplement.

I also drink lots of fresh water from the local Spring which I bottle myself.

Many of my friends are Doctors (Naturopaths), Nurses, Dieticians and Nutritionists. We spend hours exchanging information and learning from one another every week. Most are Vegan, over 50 and in excellent health.

Here's to Good Health!wine

All I can tell you is that GP services varies and my GP surgery is obsessed with targets so have no time to talk to you and recently a locum GP prescribed me Penicillan which could have killed me as I am allergic. Fortunately the Pharmacist spotted the error.
