friends4now: My three-year old grinds his teeth in his sleep. Anybody ever have that happen? Got any tips to make it stop?
YES...my son used to grind his teeth so hard that he wore the back ones down. I don't know why. He eventually grew out of it. I believe that they make some kind of mouth piece that he can use that will prevent him from hurting his teeth.

I am no expert, but my daughter did the same thing and I became concerned and just simply moved her sleeping position just a tad and enough to break her focus on her teeth. Eventually she stopped doing it..not sure if that really helps...but I found that breaking it by distracting them a little bit..not to much..just enough, I didn't want to disturb her sleep.
friends4now: thanks and i have moved him everytime-he still wakes up just slightlyhe goes right back to iti will find out from his doctor in a week if i can do anything about it but it worries me now
the teeth that my son wore down were his baby teeth. So he had stopped by the time his permanent teeth started coming in. It could just be a phase. I know what you mean though. I could hear my son grinding all the way into the living room. It was like someone scraping their fingernails across the chalkboard.

friends4now: i know its awful i hate grinding teeth
You know...could he still be teething? Try getting some Orajel and rubbing that on his gums. Maybe he is grinding them because they hurt. My son never complained about his hurting, but who knows...maybe it would work.

Though even expert doctors dont know, but they they say it could be stress or pain of some kind or misaligned teeth, a good possibility is pinworms, or simply growing teeth!!!

Dont worry, just get him to the doctor asap!
Yes, I've heard about the worms in stomach too. Ones they start eating properly & the permanent teeth appear I'm sure he'll be fine. Good luck!!
I'm not a doctor and wouldn't trust most doctors to find a cause/solution most don't know any more than to prescribe drugs and surgery JMO
I would educate myself and research - natural remedies teeth grinding in sleep - before going to the doctor
Good luck

I can't advise in your 3 yr old's case but I had this problem about 15 yrs ago, probably due to over work and stress. My dentist made me a rubbery tooth guard to wear at night. I still ground my teeth but now at a 3mm distance apart. When removed after only a few weeks my brain was now programmed to this new position so although the grinding motion would still happen, the teeth do not actually meet anymore. I don't actually know after all these years if I still go through the grinding motion and therefore look like a munching camel while I sleep .... But it has worked for me..... good luck.....

I agree.. If doctors knew what they were doing, they would not always be "practicing".
But on the other hand, I did "practice" labor law for a few years..
