Hi there! This is a common problem in people of any age!Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to prevent this, regular checkups with the dentist are a must. When he's older the dentist will probably recommend a guard that sits on the teeth to prevent damage occurring.Till then don't worry about it!
Cut out all sugar, caffiene (tea and sodas, read the labels...even some clear sodas have caffiene, not just cola.)and starches in the late afternoon or 5 hours before sleep time. I will send some healing and see if that works. If the two of you will accept it. I can't guarantee it will work tho.
Try to work on YOUR reaction to it. It may be a button to work on your stuff. Do you grit your teeth? Are you tense? It is usually a sign of tension.
friends4now: My three-year old grinds his teeth in his sleep. Anybody ever have that happen? Got any tips to make it stop?
See if his dentist can make him a mouth guard. My youngest would grind his teeth in sleep too when he was a little guy. His dentist made him a mouth guard to stop him from grinding at night.
Grinding teeth at night is called Bruxism (see wikipedia).
My son did it for a short while when he was about 10. Come to find out he and his class mates had some serious problems with a teacher in school. Fortunately that problem got solved and the nightly "grinding" stopped too.
I myself suffered from it for a spell too. Since I didn't hear it myself, I only noticed that my jaw was sore and tender and I got tension headaches. My dentist pointed it out to me since he saw the marks on my teeth. Admittedly I was in a stressful situation at the time. He made me a small clear bite guard that I wore for a week at night. At the same time I started yoga and de-stress exercises. Worked great :-)
friends4now: thanks and i have moved him everytime-he still wakes up just slightlyhe goes right back to iti will find out from his doctor in a week if i can do anything about it but it worries me now
Take him to the dentist, get him a tooth guard. It is much better and way less expensive that repairing teeth later on. I wouldnt worry too much at this point. It is very common!

It's called bruxism; i'm in the sleep disorders field; I had it as a child and most kids grow out of it.
The teeth may also be misaligned and that can cause problems.
He's very young so I doubt if stress is a problem. The best thing to do is monitor it and keep your doctor posted.

mouth/teeth guards are ok but it can also make the teeth and the bite crooked. Again, it's a somewhat common thing that you should monitor and not overly worry about it.

It is common belief that they would eventually outgrow the problem. However, there are instances when teeth grinding becomes too extreme and it causes other physical problems like face sore, headaches, and sore jaws. These are rare cases but again, they may happen. And if the teeth grinding symptoms appear on your child, it's time to take him to the dentist.
RedLyonyss: Actally It was my dentist who suggested a mouth guard for me. Most children grow out of it, but if he doesn't he can not only hurt his teeth but cause problems in his jaw, like TMJ. That takes years of grinding though. Just keep track of it and talk to Doc or Dentist
True. I ended up with Braces as an Adult, due to this. My Teeth looked perfect. Yet I had bad headaches and my Jaw always locked and clicked, very painful.
One line of my teeth was off. and this caused a hole to wear in my Jawbone from the constant grinding to try and line up with the other three lines of teeth.
Your Child shopould be wached by a Orthodontist.
My Orthodontist told me if I had gotten Braces when I was at least 10 yrs old much of this could have been avoided.

If you don't want to do that, maybe put a tennis ball in the mouth. Both options have proven successful. Ha! I'm just kidding, but I just couldn't resist! Stay well!
I hear that Hyland's brand "Calms Forte" ( a homeopathic combination) is good for helping people who grind their teeth at night. It should also help in getting a relaxed night's sleep.

I have some simple Chinese medicine knowledge, I can't say the reason clearly in English but I can tell you how to solve it:
massage kid's belley everyday, you can push from up to down, you can massage clockwise, as hard as you can, as many as you can but be sure not make her hurt, her comfortable is the limite.
