Its total Piffle V8, We are adults and its about time the bloody collective Governments (Far too many layers and fat cat pollies anyway) stopped legislating for us like we are naughty children. This was not the original intent of "common law".

What's next, the Federal health authorities mandating "Find 30" and "Go for 2 & 5", if you don't eat your broccoli of you go to the big house with the rapists and burglars!

amelie13: I'd like to think that enough dog owners don't need to have this guideline mandated. I don't see how it could be enforced because it's impossible to monitor. I'd happily report a dog owner to the RSPCA if I thought they weren't feeding the dog or mistreating it, but I'd be too busy to notice if their dog was being walked or not.

The other reason I disagree with it is that many dogs point blank refuse to be walked or even go outside in bad weather. My parents dog Lizzie seems to know when a storm is approaching and she will spend the whole day shivering and hiding in my fathers bedroom cupboard, or just stop mid walk and refuse to go any further. Sure enough 3 hours later, there'll be a thunderstorm. If dogs don't want to be walked, why should they be made to?

Exactly. And I caring owner would know that. Legislation in such cases would actually be detrimental to the poor pooch!

Oh, and I forgot to mention...the other morning, knowing I would be away 2 days, I took Jessie for a walk at 5.30am. Yep, a very brisk walk, then jumped in the shower and ready for my cab at 6.15am. Whew! So, while it wasn't a very long walk, it got us both puffing cos we walked quickly, and it meant she only missed out walking just one day.

steve6610: OMG what a total joke ( not you venere). I always believed that being a responsible dog owner didnt just entail walkies but spending time with your dog & making them feel a vital part of the family.

Whats next for us responsible pet owners ..goldfish have to swim in the swimming pool once a day for the exercise. Birds have to have aviaries the size you see at the zoo for your pair of canarie or budgies.

I believe they should spend more effort on those who ill treat animals & pets not those of us who love & adore our pets

Exactly, Steve, it's not just about walking your dog, or feeding your cat, and your duty is done.

BTYW, I just returned a little while ago from taking Jessie for a walk. Part way along, she was knackered and just lay down! I had to wait 'til she was ready to get going again, of-course nothing would ever budge her, you know how dogs 'glue' themselves to the ground!!!laugh

I know something needs to be done to monitor the well being of some dogs. I am not averse to random checks, as long as it is done with sufficient notice. If an animal/pet has been mistreated, a week isn't going to mask that.

Oh poor Jessie, yep they can be quite stubborn when they wont budge laugh .

We have an elderly couple down here at Goolwa & its so cute they have a jack russell & hes getting on a bit , but they take him for walks everyday along the river & also take a dolls pram so Jake gets to go for a walk & when he's tired he gets on the pram.

Yes, I've seen that, too. A great idea for elderly dogs.

Better not let Jessie get wind of this option!!!laugh

sshhhhhh!!! She's got 2 sets of ears.

She really has. Must get the vet to look at them. One 'normal', the other are in the form of 2 lumpy modules either side of her 'proper' ears. When I first felt them a couple of months ago, it was so freaky, like I had just met an alien!laugh

Anyway, refreshing to be on the Aussie forums. Came across 2 ladies earlier, on an Irish thread, one in particular who seemed to have summit stuck up her whatsits! doh Barged in on my posting to another CS'er. Maybe they had run out of meds, or booze.roll eyes

I'm stocking up on tim tams next week, and keep them in the 'fridge!smitten wine
