Well, as regards the question about being rude, thats very subjective, dont you think?? Some people's "rude" is another's "honesty"..
Its more in the delivery than actually what is said that makes it rude, or not..

Rude is when there is name calling. I have no problem with someone being honest but there are tactful ways to be honest without being rude. Being labeled as a killer was quite rude to me or saying that I deserved to be beaten by a man was quite rude too.
