laura139: I agree...part of the protocol, to see where your beliefs are. They don't want to preform marriages that don't have the basis of what their church stands for.
At least you hit it on the head by stating 'what THEIR church stands for'!
Nowadays it seems 'the church' stands for whatever you want - or nothing much really at all!
We have lovely Church of England Bishops who openly admit that they don't believe in the virgin birth and even question that Jesus was/is 'the son of God'.
Then we have lots of lovely churches who fight each other - some even literally as in the case of some bunch of monks beating the crap out of each other in a church in Jerusalem; no wonder I didn't wish to vist such a 'holy' city on my trip to Israel.
If the course had been any bloody use he'd have realised that it wasn't going to work and he'd have been able to use the course as a sincere excuse for running away as fast as he could from the impending doom!
See?
The courses should be designed to make only the most determined and foolish take the plunge into the black hole of marriage!
Hey - I'm not actually against marriage..... just a little scared of failure..... as, I believe, we all are!
willow51: robert did u just give me the finger with that little icon?
No - I thought it was a finger to my lips indicating my lips were sealed and that our disgusting perverted lust for each other was a 100% secure secret that nobody on this planet apart from you and me and my cat Timmy would ever know about - ok?
RobertC2: because he went ahead and got married, silly!

Quire frankly it's none of his business and what's more if you need the option or blessing from some complete stranger who's a figurehead for the Church (whichever one it may be) then your not quite right in the head!!
We learnt nothing from him. He was quoting from a handbook written by the Catholic Church written in the fifties... and all he did was read. Some of it was pre-historic....
There are prob better educated / qualified priests / ministers than the one we had but for us and the other couples that were there learnt nothing.

Never marry a priest - they'll bring home all the world's problems after work!

I think if we choose to marry in their faith/church we have to adhere to their rules.
I had to take a Marriage Guidance course chaired by a Priest...... before I got married........what a waste.
Im not sure they are qualified to analyse the compatability or dispense marriage guidance tho...
