Yes once considered the workshop of the world.

But now reliant on foreign Imports
Where has the bulldog Nation gone,?
Very little manufacturing. Not able to produce a car anymore. It seems you have sold even the family silver ie Rolls Royce.
Even the Hall mark MADE IN BRITAIN has vanished

Now most of your products bear the label, MADE IN CHINA.
IS there a possibily that one day , you can compete in the world market as you once did. Most people blame
For the Downfall of manufacturing. And thought your country could survive in the finacial world. alas it has.nt. I just wonder were it all went wrong. ??

Sir with due respect to you, United Kingdom and Great Britain are separate entities. Maybe I could send you a copy of Markist dialecticism that might enlighten you that global capitalism has to be reached before global socialism can surface.

When it comes to production I don't think any western country can compete with the likes of China. Labour costs in many Eastern countries are just so low that companies that need unskilled labour go there. dunno It's not just Britain.

Hmm my stance on this is Globalisation - the latter of which is an economic challenge and raises questions about past/present governance, but the UK has a competitve future in global economy and we need to be part of it to embrace opportunities in spite of the current downturn I believe we can be optimistic. Let's not also forget Britain is part of the EU.

Indeed, and many companies actually outsource their work to other countries too such as Asia. It is simply cheaper and more financially viable.

i know of a lady who makes 46 peso a day = .98 us dollar, i ask how she lives on that, her reply i budget. this i could see in a small village with access to a garden but she lives in a large city.. so i can see where the low labor comes from, in mexico a company from us moved there and to keep employees they fed them lunch, paid them 8 dollars a day.. these are the ones ruining the economy as the savings is not passed on but stuck in their pockets.. if the poorer people would stand up for more wage they would lose as the companies would look elsewhere for labor..

Don't Western interests for all intents and purposes own the OP's Singapore? Sure, China has a lot of my country's treasury bills but if they cashed them in they'd ruin their market of greatest consumption.

If we were to grow up a bit more quickly as a species the next time Oil goes through the roof it stays there and makes everyone A LOT more dependent on domestic industry. Would positively addres both extent environmental and socialproblems.
