I have never used Ebay but have used Trademe in NZ and it got very addictive
I would be looking for something and would just browse and then see things so I would bid and buy things that I didnt really need.
But there has been a couple of times where I have wanted something and gone way over the price I had set -
Yes I used to get into bidding wars as didnt like losing One day there was an item I wanted and reserve was at something like $150 and me and another person at hard out bidding war with auto bids and then bids and I ended up winning and paying approx $300 more than i was going to
I think it is good but be careful as the sellers bid on auto at the last min if they do not get their price so you will never beat them as its done electronically. Its not allowed but its done all the time. Its calld Shill bidding I think.
I got a terrific desktop computer for $135 with 2gb hard drive its pretty fast as well.
But be careful with clothing as sizing and quality are not the best sometimes. Always look at the feedback for the seller very important. If you need any help just ask me.I just get what I need but so many cannot stop bidding or buying.

Hi Martia, you are correct, it is call schill bidding when a seller bids on their own item, or gets a someone they know to 'phantom' bid to bump up the price.... but the only way a seller can bid on their own item is if they use a second ebay id of their own (I have 2 ids- delany508 & steptoes_daughter). A seller CANNOT bid on their own item from the same id. I did it years ago but am too frightened to do it again as I like to keep my good reputation. I often wonder just how 'honest' some sellers really are when it comes to genuine bids...
However I cannot confirm your theory of schill-bidding, as I have no idea personally. I really don't think it is all that as common practice as you think it is...
kezza007: I have been looking and shopping on the Ebay of late...
Not that I am winning, but it can be fun... Except when the last bid comes in at the 2second mark...
What are your views on ebay shopping??
Hey Kezza, I know what you mean, I often get pipped at the post when bidding and it can be very disappointing. Some buyers use what is knows as a 'bid Sniper', you have no chance against these buyers as they have it in the bag right from the start usually. You can download bid sniper but I have no idea just how it works with regard to setting your bid limits.
astoneinariver: i got a fishin reel from america, and it only took a week, its a bloody ripper
Yes stone, it can be great to look outside our own country for bargains.... I've got diamond & gold jewellery from the US at very cheap prices and had them valued to being worth thousands. The secret is keeping within your limits and sticking to them!

I know it is not too good as I get emails wanting me to buy at my last bid. Its happened to me about 50% of the time the last time I told a seller what i thought of him and to stick his offer where the sun dont shine he never replied. They just try to keep you bidding more and more the new members often get carried away wanting to beat they think! is their opposition and pay way too much Its hard to prove as well. But that is only my opinion.
EBay??? Love it, have spent heaps there. Always check the sellers feedback, set a price you are prepared to pay, check availability and price elsewhere on the net (I bought a hard drive docking station after checking the net, got more features for same price as ebay) often choose items that finish late at night or on a saturday or sunday night. Save your bid for the last 35 secs.
Love ebay for anything other than clothing Ive bought clothing in the past and even tho its new it can have marks or worse 2 items i won stunk of ciggarettes phew !!! wasnt impressed left bad reviews but it was easirer to wash the cloths than send them back Still if its what i want 7 a bargain well i find it hard to refuse .... apart from that i enjoy ebay shopping !!!

I think Ebay is great.
I sell a bit of stuff, it works well. Espesially since I am in a rural area it is easier than going to the market or something. Anything I can post, I can sell without leaving town.
I have also found it good to buy stuff too. I have found a few hard to find car parts. And I have also got some very cheap gadgets and things from China, that have been quite reasonable items. All sent to the letter box!!
Heaps of items I have sold, have been won by people bidding in the last 10 seconds. I think You can get programs that will do this I wouldn't use one myself. I think the last 10 second bid is no fun for the buyer or seller.. I have seen people miss out on an item they really wanted because someone out bid them right at the end, and I have also seen people miss out because they waited till the last few seconds and bid and didn't bid high enough, and they were prepared to pay more.
A lot of people get carried away with the bidding, I have sold items for more than they would sell in a shop because people just outbid each other.
When I buy something, I will put one bid. The highest abount I will pay for it (plus 50 cents or something ). Then if it goes over, bad luck. Some times I won't even look to see if I have been outbid until it's over.
r8nd0m: For buying stuff eBay is OK (provided your cautious of course ) but not the best place in the world when it comes to selling stuff (eBay = feeBay ).
I have found this too....
Sometimes buying is ok, but like I said alot of the time there seems to be someone there to beat you...And I have my limit also, won't go too high if i miss out too bad..
And selling yeah I feel not the best place to sell, beats advertising in the paper and you can get rid of things easy by doing the electronic paper work at home.
