im a single mom living in income based housing rasing my two year old daughter off child support. we dont get much but we get by. i dont ask people for money ever! my parents help me out only when i really need it. i am a strong independant woman. i have been looking for work but with my situation is makes it hard to find a job that will fit my familes needs.... so why is it that when guys see/ hear unemployed or stay at home single mom they automatically think needy, gold digger, or that your looking for a free ride. i dont believe that someones worth should be based on how much money they have or where they live. i have a lot to offer someone but feel like i get overlooked because i dont work.

Yes it is wrong but I guess people do think some of those things your saying, im not saying all.

My advice is, at the 1st chance you can get out and find work, show these guys your asking for nothing and if they want to be with you they need to accept you as you are.

Ps. dont sit at home, thats a cop out.

I saw the statistics on single moms and that is staggering but the stats on single moms who never go after the biological dad for any money is astounding. Why do you think certain cultures have men with babies from so many different women? Because the women let them get away with it.

I would garnish his wages til hell froze over; and if he's not working get his unemployment.

back on topic, of course some would think that because it happens all the time.

Look at all of the famous men with mistresses and wives that they literally buy to be with them. Of course it's an issue. You may not be that way but you can't look bad at a guy that wonders about it.

Your single? You have a young child? SO WHAT!!!

Those facts would make NO DIFFERENCE at all to me, and any man who did overlook you for either of those reason is a man not worth having anyway.

A man should be able accept a woman for who she is, not what icome she has (and vice versa I might add).

Of course income matters in the bigger picture, but it DOES NOT make you any less a woman (or man) because your situation makes it difficult for you.

BEST OF LUCK countrygirl03

I understand whay you are saying. The stigma in those words "single parent on a low income". People are shallow if they cant see past those words and not worthy of being your friend. True friends are like expensive jewellery or fine wine.

I am a single parent too and I have sacrificed after working hard to be at home for my child until he is older. I feel 15 months is a bit too young to leave in a daycare. The father and I are separated after 6 years and he sees our child etc.

I feel you are like me an independent strong woman and that is a plus. I encourage you to widen your circle of friends and network with people you come in contact with daily. Keep positive and strong and focus on quality time being a parent and good things will come. Best of luck!heart1

i understand what you are saying..but you have to think of what others goals in life maybe. If i met a man that was a stay at home dad and wasnt working..he better be in school trying to better his situation or starting his own business..Alot of people dont want someone that isnt trying to have a better life, that is not being vain, its being real.I would try to work on myself and making my child situation better before thinking about getting into another relationship.

you are devoting all your time to your child, and to me that is a good thing. its very hard being a single parent. i didnt go back to work until my son was three and i think he benefited from that. you will get back into work when the time is right. if men are judging you on your circumstances they are not worth getting to know. good luck to youhandshake x

Money doesn't make a person who they are .. I recently lost my father and he worked hard his whole life. At the end it wasn't his material things he took with him, it was his memories of the relationships he had with his loved ones. If men won't take the time to talk to you because you arn't wealthy then thats their loss. People shouldn't be judged on what they have but who they are. Keep your head up and the right man will come along.

I found something that worked for me way back then. I was a single Mom and I found another single Mom with 2 children and we rented an apartment together.
I went to business college full time during the week and worked part-time on the weekend and she worked the hours I was off so it was a great situation to be in.
Try to find someone in your circumstances and it just might work out far better than you expect.handshake wave

I’ve had a few encounters with gentlemen from USA, and indeed almost the first question they ask is: “What you do for a living?” They don’t want to waste their time on just chatting, they want to know at once what you are “worth”.

A child and a low income isn’t that jolly combination. But children grow up, and in a couple of years it’d be possible for you to leave your daughter in a daycare and find a job.

It’s easier to say, but you’ve got to hold on, after all a child is the most beautiful thing that happens in a woman’s life.

Hello Girl! There is absolutely nothing wrong on being unemployed, we all have had bad times in life and it is not over yet. My father was an orphan when he was only 2 yr old and in a much worse situation than yours at that time.

Would it be posible for you to get an scholarship to study something that you like it? there must be some out there from the gov or from institutions? And, go out to talk, to walk get involved with community affairs helping each others, like already was said here, trade with a friend the babysiting time so mums can work. Your child is lucky to have you as a 100% mum! so enjoy him, prepare him for life too and always be proud of yourself!!!

And do not settle for anyone different that the one you are looking for!

Take care darling

Why automatically assume it all hinges on income in terms of single parents?? I'd expect for some, (hopefully many), it is the whole package, encompassing not only the dating aspect but the responsibilities to the children and the impact they will have on their current lifestyle. Am sure you will find someone though as my mum did.. beer
