rizlared: How easy is it to get a job as an English Teacher? I hope to move to Greece at some time, in fact I want to retire there to maybe Rhodes or Crete, but would like to teach for a few years first. I have been told that now, due to the crisis, they are no taking on Foreign teachers, even well qualified and experienced ones.
Honestly Riz, I dunno! because here, its very much a case of 'who you know' if you get my drift. If you have a Greek friend, you are very lucky - in many ways I do more 'nannying' than actual teaching, which is a bit frustrating at times, but mostly Im happy that I have a job, and am supporting myself. Greeks can be crazy at times, but they can also show extraordinary kindness and caring. My advice to you would be - sure, try some teaching but be prepared to be also tutor, babysitter, gardener, driver, plumber, bartender or something else. Look on it as a big adventure!

Crete...beautiful island...enjoyed my holiday there.
Three dead because some militant left wing extremists decided to set a bank on fire, its stime the Greek government called in the army, declared martial law, banned public sector strikes and protests. Any one who is rioting on the streets should be shot on sight, it would send on the strongest message that the Greek government will not tolerate any trade union militancy as well as communist and anarchist extremists.

Martia: In Australia we were just about out of trouble. But the problems in Europe are reverberating all around the world.... shares plunge again.... any end to it. ? And why do shareholders panic so easily as they all come back up again.
We like you are just seeing the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, so we can hardly help ourselves let alone Greece. Plus they have a tourist trade which we don't, they need to do cutbacks like the reast of us and pay more taxes!!
hi Martia must know and these is not a problem of Greece but is problem of all Europe.First was Iceland ,(UK make that trouble there) Ireland now the Greece and cames others EU countrys, so lets talk with numbers. The Gross Domestic Product for the Greece is 13,6%( and this is the reason Greece cant take loans from the markets and you know all countrys do it that even the USA takes loans from China) So you must know the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of UK, if no is 12,6%, i think is same like the Greek GDP. Something else Greece in 2004 had the Olympic Games ,and in 2012 London will have the Olympic Games is that a coincidence for the future UK economy? times shows.

Well we have given you 1.6 Billion pounds, and i believe Germany have almost trebled that amount. The Uk is hardly out of a really bad recession and we have lost a lot of our manufacturing companies. Our people have not had a yearly rise fore the last 2 years and it will be a long time before this country is back on its feet. I think the biggest mistake for most european countries was to opt for the Euro.
DEAR IRISH FRIEND ICAN ASURE U THAT ITS MOST LIKELY THE GUYS WHO KILLED THOSE 3 POOR BANK WORKERS ARE PROVOCATORS WHO GOT PAID TO DO THAT.U ASK THE SAME PEOPLE WHO CREATED OUR PROBLEM-THE POLITICIANS- TO DECLER MARTIAL LAW AND SEND THE ARMY AGAINST POOR WORKERS AND OLD MEN AND WOMEN? ON WHAT BASE? WE TAKE UR MONEY CAUSE WE SPENT THE LAST ONES WE GOT FROM U ON BIG HOUSES AND PRETTY VILLAS AND WE SHOOT U IF U DARE TO PROTEST? READ MY POST AT THE END OF THE PAGE AND DONT CONCLUDE SO EASILY OUR SITUATION HERE
WHEN I WAS YOUNG THE GOVERNORS TOLD US :BE WARE OF COMMUNISTS.IF THEY TAKE THE LEADERSHIP U GONNA LOSE UR HOUSE ,UR JOB AND ALL THE FREEDOMS WE OFFER U.AND NOW CAPITALISTS DO THAT.

AthenzGirl: If you know anything about EU law you will know that EU members are entitled to work in the same way as natives of that country.
Just want to point out that this isn't strictly accurate. When a new country joins, they sometimes have a time period before they allow this, and so do some existing members, in allowing the latest members to work there. The Uk used to impose no restrictions, but have put these in place in recent years. For example when Malta joined, I think there was a two year gap before any other EU national was allowed to work there.
I'm very sad for what has happened in Greece today, I love the country and it's people. But, like so many, they have got to get a grip on corruption and tax evasion.

AthenzGirl: 1) you are rude 2) I worked for a canadian not a finn 3) unless you have actually interviewed people who are living there - how can you judge? 4) the day you register at Työvoimatoimisto you can come tell me your educated opinion about foreigner employment in Suomi.
Enjoy your mahalaukku!
Ah, the magic word, judging, perhaps take a look again and see what you posted. To claim a person to be rude without any foundation whatsoever, I find that very very immature behaviour, especially from a teacher.
well, for the mister from somewhere in Agean sea(maybe from the bottom of the sea}or you are a communist or you like to see in your coins the picture of your queen or king to remember you tails from the past. IF IS MISTAKE FOR THE EUROPIANS COUNTRIES TO OPT THE EURO ? better ask the iceland people or the bulgarian people look the lithuanian the estonian these countrys is in EU but they dont have the euro. for the ENGLISHELEGANCE, my dear your sterlina one week ago has been devalued by 25% in front of euro, you know what means that you personal lost 25%.
Greece, being of theoretic, socialist behavior was bound to fail, just has all nations will, who base their growth, and support on theory. Every human will take the easiest route to prosperity, and when the government offers that route with support of the taxpayers money, they all will let others pay. This theoretic form of government is bound to fail, has the strained taxpayer falls into, and takes the easiest route. AND THE DEMS IN AMERICA ARE PLACING THEIR HOPES IN KILLING OFF THE ELDERLY, AND MAKING THE MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS TAXPAYING CITIZENS.
Looks like the usual suspect Goldman Sachs is at it again. It helped the Greek government push forward to a distant future billions of euros in public spending, by selling derivative products to the scheming Greeks. That's how they have been meeting the Eurozone 3% budget limit over the past decade. GS of course earned the usual multi-million dollar fees

the same guys who creted the problem now they return dressed like others to solve it.capitalism my friend is like adog who is spinning around itself trying to bite his tale.and the banks offeru an umbrella on a sunny day and take it back the time of raining.
K_rational: Not to flag wave, but Canada was the only major economy in the world (G20 countries) not to have a bank failure or major debt crisis.
It was also the only major economy in the world that stuck by the old banking rules from pre-2001, not playing fast and loose with cash and debt like everybody else.
No doubt there are people who will try to say those two facts are unrelated.
Steve5721: Where did you get this information from?
She hasn't lost 25%, she's in the UK and we don't use the Euro..so her £1 is still £1.
