I hear of cases of 'certificate marriage' here in Greece - does anyone in CS Canada ever hear or know of same? The refugee situation is getting out of control in many places, and people are getting desperate. Whats worse - marrying someone you dont intend to spend your life with, or refusing them as their only hope?
"There are 307 residents for each doctor. In a comparison of 16 countries by Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, Finland used the least resources and attained average results, making Finland the most efficient public sector health service producer according to the study's authors." (Svensk sjukvård i internationell jämförelse 2008)
" Finland has the highest number of people satisfied with their hospital care system in the EU: 88% of Finnish respondents were satisfied compared with the EU average of 41.3%" (http://ec.europa.eu/public_opinion/archives)
And finally...
"David Beckham is the richest and the best-known player in soccer, the world's most popular game. Beckham was flown to Finland on March 15, 2010, for surgery.." (New York Times)
God exist whether or not men may choose to believe in Him. The reason why many people do not believe in God is not so much that it is intellectually impossible to believe in God, but because belief in God forces that thoughtful person to face the fact that he is accountable to such a God. Robert A. Laidlaw
I was at this time of living, like so many Atheists or Anti-theists, in a whirl of contradictions. I maintained that God did not exist. I was also very angry with God for not existing. I was equally angry with Him for creating a world. C.S. Lewis
Atheism is a crutch for those who cannot bear the reality of God. Tom Stoppard
Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right. Abraham Lincoln
On 'women's hour' last week they were discussing this and the figures were slightly lower than yours - there has been some slight improvement (they said). It probably doesn't help that society in general will make women pay more as consumers.. a few years ago in north America they discovered that women are charged more for dry cleaning of a blouse than men are for same service of a shirt. That 8% unaccounted, is shrinkage allowed for man-brain each time he has female boss!
I think this is one of the big faults to online romance... many people here are working at the same time as they are chatting - in reality, when we are working we are not usually having a 'quality time' romance with someone (office flirting doesnt count!). That said, yes - talking is important - Ive been asked many times 'lets meet up' and when I refuse saying "not until I know you better", some jokers have even said 'but we have been chatting for days!' when in fact we have just messaged several times over several days. Ive also wondered, how do the men (and women) who are the 'strong silent' type manage with internet chat/romance?
Not so much... but some people do tend be very particular over other attributes - and THIS does increase with men over 40. In particular the "wants children" part. If I see a man aged 45+ who says he wants kids, Im kinda thinking maybe that boat has sailed.... men also ask for a 'feminine' woman - as opposed to "Im looking for a masculine tough lady"?
Honestly Riz, I dunno! because here, its very much a case of 'who you know' if you get my drift. If you have a Greek friend, you are very lucky - in many ways I do more 'nannying' than actual teaching, which is a bit frustrating at times, but mostly Im happy that I have a job, and am supporting myself. Greeks can be crazy at times, but they can also show extraordinary kindness and caring. My advice to you would be - sure, try some teaching but be prepared to be also tutor, babysitter, gardener, driver, plumber, bartender or something else. Look on it as a big adventure!
1) you are rude 2) I worked for a canadian not a finn 3) unless you have actually interviewed people who are living there - how can you judge? 4) the day you register at Työvoimatoimisto you can come tell me your educated opinion about foreigner employment in Suomi.
What most Greeks would enjoy, is to see the Orth. church here being taxed! Its been told 20%, and they can well afford it!
They have power, and unfortunately church and state are not seperate here. The Greeks who dont pay taxes, are not the small hard workers - they are the elite - the doctors, lawyers, and other professionals who are given 'gifts' from their clients (bc thats part of the culture here)and never give receipts. They have no fear of the system - knowing they only have to give the tax inspector a big 'gift' also, to guarantee being left alone. Many many people work for minimum wage (about 600€ a month)and the tax prob is not going to be solved with them! All the polititions who gave themselves country homes, big pensions, and huge bonus' should be forced to give it back... if they truly love their country... if they dont - then get 'em for treason... and take it anyways!
1)"Yes you can get a job in Finland and France if you do not speak their language." 2)"If a country is a member of the EU a person with an EU passport can (live and) work in that country".
You are talking about law...Im talking about fact!
I lived in Finland 7 years - only managed to work for two of those. Its well known amongst ALL non Finns that they are homogeneous ppl who do their utmost to avoid giving foreigners (EU or otherwise) jobs. They force everyone of employable age to become a student, which in turn shows on their stats as 'low unemployment, high training'. For the two years Ive been in Greece, Ive worked - Im not fussy, do teaching as Im trained, or handing out fliers at supermarkets etc. When you have also lived in Scandinavia and worked - get back to me and tell me how easy it was! THEN, you can make statements like that.
Culture plays a very big part in the troubles here, but its also the very thing that make the tourists come here every year! It also has one of the lowest minimum wages in the EU!
Yes, there is a certain amount of corruption here, and you have to learn very carefully how to 'play' the system. BUT, unlike some of the other EU countries such as Finland and France, Greece will allow non greeks and non greek speakers to take a job here. If you know anything about EU law you will know that EU members are entitled to work in the same way as natives of that country.
I think, the mistake is more to assume that when you see someone who you feel is attractive and seems to have nice (written) personality, that they ARE a perfect match to you. I must also say that because I have traveled and dated some people from different cultures, it depends on your background how you approach someone. In some cultures it is very common to declare your strong feelings straight away, and other cultures it is more polite to make small talk, and be more gentle. IE, a man from Nigeria recently came up to me and declared he thought me attractive, and we should go for coffee and talk right away. That, for me was too much too fast, especially as I was with two friends. My advice to you, is just be gentle, polite, and complimentary. eg. hello 'flowerchild', I enjoyed your profile - if you have a little time Id like to exchange a few emails with you. If you have already so many emails to answer, I will just hope to hear from you in the future! A flower for u!
When ladies feel a lot of pressure from men who talk straight away very seriously, we dismiss the man immediatly. Hope this helps!
I chose - certain family - because before I even saw the choices, I already had in my mind that Id give to my daughters only. I feel that first, since they came from my body there is a good chance my kidney would be a match, and secondly - my mother love compells me to do something like this! Anyone else, will have to ask their mom too or just pray for available dialasis machine.
Very cute Primeros! Maybe the question would have been better asked as "is there a person with job you would NOT date...or at least think twice about?" Its really nice how everyone is being so comprehensive and pc here.. so maybe Im unique that Id really rather not date a funeral technician, or mortuary caretaker. Id also steer away from men in the political arena and the 'vocational unemployed'
Anyway - we are not talking about fantasy, but if a certain career makes someone attractive - ie would Monika have wanted Bill so much if he wasnt the prez and was just any middle aged guy with a paunch and maybe an accountant? The nature of CS is such that in the intro of each person it lists the job and wage status, and Im fairly sure that the men who list (or have photo) that they are pilot, fire fighter, doctor or musician get a lot of WVM.
That makes me think of my childhood when it would have been 12 shillings, and you could have got 2 seats to see a show, lunch out for the family, or a couple of books!
Now, hmmm... it will get you a Kitkat, a postage stamp or ½hr in a car park!
Traditionally, many females have been attracted by men with particular careers - military, sport, entertainment, medical, political etc. Men also have held fantasies and attraction for women in similar careers - especially if it includes a uniform! Some careers/jobs appear very unattractive, or even boring - does this matter to you? No one wants to appear shallow to dislike someone based on their job, but cant be denied that some jobs do boost your attraction quota. Ive yet to find the man who has not wanted to date a nurse, teacher, air stewardess or model...
it really depends on your penchant - do you like women dark and sultry? pale and willowy? sweet and full bodied?
ie. Scandinavian women with the fresh air and sauna have lovely skin, and South Americans have incredible bodies. Every part of the world has beautiful females - but real men are more attracted by the charisma and inner beauty... an exquisite mind.
I think, if as part of the vows taken in marriage, most normal people would sit down with the priest, rabi, JP or whoever and discuss the vows and also the meanings. If I promise to 'Love, honor and obey',the old style words, I would understand that to be a meaning of 'I will keep my word - the vows that I make to you are true in my heart'. Id never intepret that as 'I promise to do every thing you tell me to do.' Obey - is more to do with wanting to be true to yourself, your words, to obey your heart. So, since people are allowed to write their own vows, Id go for: "I will Love, Honor and keep the promises I make to you from my heart."
And of course, Id expect the bride groom to make exactly the same commitment!
Well, the real question of reply is "how much shorter?" for me - one or two centimetres - no problem... but Im not tall and any less would mean I might feel like Im taking him to school! But overall, Id date him if he was sweet guy and..as a wise friend told me - we are all the same height when we're laying down ;-)
But, even men have height discrimination - one man who started off to be interested in me (here in Athens) before Id even accepted a date was asking me if Id wear high heels when we went out (as a condition for dating) because (quote)"I dont wanna look like a giant beside you ha ha". Then when I pointed out that maybe he has some issues to be so concened about what other ppl think, he confirmed that by telling me that I had just gone "from a cool chick to a nagging hen"
Probably not. This is 2010 and not 1010! But really, in this day and age, for someone to not get something like that fixed (or to let teeth get in that rotten condition) shows a much deeper problem... extreme low self esteem/unhealthy fear of medical help/
That kind of problem doesnt happen over-night, so yeah - Id be really apprehensive to date someone with rotten teeth. Its hard when its a blind date coz ur kinda stuck, but then luckily there is always the *nice to meet ya, bye!* alternative.
NOOOOOOOOOOO... Id never allow creedance to give them a whole forum! but seriously... was just answering your response and giving example (Im a teacher and its pre-conditioned!)
yes, topics DO take on quite silly directions - one of mine recently took a 180 and people started talking about an upcoming CS get together...
know anyone who married to save someone from deportation etc?
