Assets52: Are you the type of person that it takes actual proof of something to get you to take action.
For instance: Would it take a diagnosis of lung cancer to get you to stop smoking?
Or skin cancer to get you to stop tanning?
Proof that something exists doesn't mean that you have to get it, or have to expereince it for yourself.
I often like proof of things, but not necessarily in a personal experiential way, to act on something. I like to know the truth of things, insofar as we can have truth about anything, since most of it is subjective anyway.

Ok I can see how my post might be misleading. Let me rephrase it.
Would it take YOUR diagnosis of lung cancer to get you to stop smoking?
Or would it take your doctor telling you that you have skin cancer to get you to stop tanning?
Assets52: Well I don't know that there would be one for dating but for sleeping around.
Would it take STD's or AIDS to get you to stop sleeping around?
Apparently it would take a lot less than that...
But seriously, I think everyone has their own personal barometer and are sensitive to different fears and anxieties. You might be prone to follow one set of advice but not another. I suppose personal experience has alot to do with it, too.

Hi, Asset..
I have to say, to my shame, that there are some things that I know I SHOULD do, like giving up smoking, that sadly, probably only the doc telling me to do will make me do it. Well, maybe..
I think as we get older, we realise that we are not immortal, so generally speaking I have stopped doing most things that I consider are bad for me, like using sun beds, trying to cut down on red meat, etc. Mind you, I only stopped using sun beds when I encountered a faulty one, and it nearly burnt my whole face off.

My answer was this......I often like proof of things, but not necessarily in a personal experiential way, to act on something, (In other words, I don't necessarily have to get cancer to stop smoking, in fact I gave up 2 years ago just because I wanted to). I also never tan, because I read that is carries risks.
I like to know the truth of things, (have proof), insofar as we can have truth about anything, since most of it is subjective anyway.
So I like proof, but I dont have to experience it to have proof. I would take the word of an expert as proof, (when I had double checked their facts).
Not quite the same as being hit over the head huh?

I think we all tend to lean this way.
I have never been a sun worshiper but I've never been the least bit careful in the sun either. Now I have a spot on my leg that appears to be skin cancer and I find myself going out of my way to cover up while outdoors.
I think that means it takes a brick to get the message through my head.

No not at all. I wish I was more like you. We would all be better off if we thought the way you do.

Please do have it looked at. Knowing is much better then not. Besides. Then and only then can you get it fixed. It takes a lot of time to get serious and the sooner you go a fix it the easier the treatment is too. So dear woman. Go now.

It has it's drawbacks too. I get told off a lot for being boring and too careful. Not that I mind. I'm kinda sensible by nature, so not much to be done about it.

Well... maybe I am a "bit dense"... It DID take my empty bank account, the Nigerian address, The photo of the "Pamala Anderson" look-a-like, and the broken English emails & letters before I realized I was dating a Sock-Puppet..!! Maybe I am too trusting... ---SoldierByte---
