Well, damn! I must be going to the wrong sites or something; so far, I've mostly encountered a few (paraphrased, of course) "I don't care if my profile says I'm looking for friends; I want to get married ... now!" and "I really love you, and if you send money/agree to my scheme, we can be happy."
That's not to say I haven't met some genuine gems - real people who may yet become real friends; but yes, "minefield" describes it well.

Olderbard, I guess it wasn't the distance so much, we kept things going for 18 mths seeing each other for just a few days a month. But I guess the question is - how long can you do that for?? Without going into details - he couldn't move closer because of business and I couldn't move because of job, family committments. Anybody want to adopt 2 house trained teenagers??
