mindfful: i would never say i want someone religious because i am not religious.

noooo-hohohoho-ooooooooooo

its about a relationship, not religion

being in a love relationship does not include fear

i loved my dad-but i had a healthy respect for him so to say a god loving person isnt quite all encompassing
as the respect/awe aspect isnt touched on- and its an important one

i should say i am reasonably certain that many many christians posting that in their profiles are not meaning it the way i am explaining it tho. i dont think alot of people study words, word history and evolution of it.

So.... would you say you "feared" your father or "respected" him ?

Venusruled: Why not say what is meant then? Why not write "man who respects God" or "God loving man"?

I think fear is always meant to mean fear. It can not be disputed that religions have put the fear of God into their congregation as a means of control.

Amen. Thank you.

RDM59: Yes I agree, I despise the selfish, greedy and cruel nature of homo sapien. Religion had a field day there exploiting that to maximum effect. I don't think your God has done a very good jobe personally .....
my god doesnt control people
people have done their own job

how come god gets blamed for everything negative but never praised for anything positive? thats never made any sense to me at all- i mean....cant have it both ways that just doesnt compute

Englishman55: I am respectful of everyones right and ability to have a God, but I do not believe myself in Gods... only of a higher power.... that does not mean I will mock those that do believe.

hmmm was not really accusing you of doing so...There are those who do..and quite a few on this site..However, if someone puts that out there in their profile (they want a man/woman who is God fearing), that is their right to do so. These are "supposed" to be expressions of who we really are, and what we "really" want. Therefore, if you do not believe in God...I guess that person who states these things would not be for you , and visa versa. Simple as that. Y make any issue of it. But, since you were asking an honest question. Honest answers were given from those who have found and understanding of fearing God. No deformation to your character was implied...bouquet

it would depend on the century

as i said these people for the most part are sheep having a very shallow relationship w/ an idea of god as shared with them by another person.

also i can say probably as i matured and as my relationship matured with my dad i came to understand what i felt for him was trust and adoration and amazement at all he had done for me

but as a kid or a teen we cant relate that way right?

If there is a God so awesome to be in control of all this then not getting it perfect doesn't compute with me.

Im amazed that in this day and age people still believe in God... I really am... For something that was created to try and control the people, ironically its caused the most destruction...

There are so many different religions and stories within religions that contradict each other... We know through the facts of science how we were created and evolved...and it wasn't by a giant bearded man sitting on a cloud....

Egyptians used to have the same fable of the character just like Jesus...This was obviously BC...These Urban Myths Im sure will be around forever with Tooth Fairies and Father Christmas....

I just wish people wouldnt preach, and somehow think because you dont believe in "God" that you're in the wrong or a bad person... I just wish everybody would live in harmony without religion....

Peace Out....

Englishman55: Have seen quite a few profiles recently where the woman is looking for a partner who has.... "A fear of God" or is a "God fearing man"

Whats that all about ?

I thought God said.... "love thy neighbour" and all that, so why should he be feared.

She must have her reasons to have fear in her God!

I am fearless and I love my neighbours

EM nowadays i pretty much just say my dad was a trip-
and ya know what?

i say the same thing about godrolling on the floor laughing

its difficult to describe the indescribable

like how do you really really explain a love relationship you are in to a friend? so much of the feelings dont translate to words right?

i mean you try to explain and share your amazement and joy at this relationship youve found and as the words pass your lips it becomes very frustrating because you are hearing them and your brain is screaming "no no thats not right-that word is not big enough! i cant articulate it to them and now i just sound like an idiotdoh"

Harmony would be to respect other beliefs either you believe in God or not, either you do practice a religion or not.

I am not religious either but I do respect other person's beliefs!

okokok

how about this

do you fear consequences?

do you fear running out into traffic and what would be the result?

or any other dangerous thing?

god fearing maybe just means "man i dont want to do something that i know is wrong" (or believe is wrong)lest i have to face that consequence?

winkwinkQQ: Nigerian/Ghana black men use that term "the fear of God or God Fearin"

Black scammers pretending to be white! I get that all the time.

Their spelling and grammar are not correct as most times they use a language translator.........

so true. they think that is something to make you trust them, but that is a major turn off for me, I get suspicious when I see that.

you will very rarely find me in such a thread either but i do not compute or quantify what god is as its very nature is unknowable at this stage of the game i think

as far as translating my belief i did share some of what i believe and also some word history

dunno

i dont see how sharing how i feel is offensive but fear notgrin im done now

its all about to go south and thats not an interest

thanks english

Hi MF, I am like you. I feared my dad when I was younger.

I am religious but I am not God-fearing. Thanks for your explanation of the term though.
