this week I have been learning how to smoke .. I am at the stage where I can inhale without coughing too much .. I look so much cooler by the pool with a ciggy in my mouth ..

yesterday I took a 5 hour train journey in which I couldn't smoke .. when I eventually got off the train and lit up, the hit was amazing .. I swear for about 5 minutes the whole train station was spinning .. does that usually happen? .. dunno

Yes .. for a beginner smoker ..... usually at about the age of 12 .....

smoky: So, what exactly are you ... ing about?

Non smokers who whinge about a bit of tobacco smell on another person .... is tobacco worse than strangers sweat...? ... huh..? ...or horse sweat...?...or rotting flesh in guts...?

Tobacco is at least a clean smell - Not toxic, and life threatening ... just like a normal smell. Unless of course one considers the Esteé Lauder/Channel/Revlon smells to be "normal", in which case tis yourself who has the problem with what is "normal" and what is "natural".....

You have made an intersting point Smoky. I used to smoke 40 a day but stopped in 1974 and haven't smoked since. I would've normally said I would rather date a non smoker but it never occurred to me that my perfume could be just as annoying to other people. I guess I should be more tolerant in future.

You sound a very tolerant type of person Maisie!

Ja, perfume is pleasant. As long as its just a Perfume!

There`s been times when I`ve had to move to the other end of a train carriage to be able to breath after some female has sat down, who obviously had doused herself in something toxic smelling ... that she thought was perfume...grin ... waving the newspaper around would not even disperse the overpowering aroma!

...........oOo...........going off topic but topic related ......an interesting thing I have observed lately, since the No Smoking in Drinking Pubs....

This village used to have 15 pubs a few years ago ...... and now we have 3. (Last week we had 4, but the owner sold the building to a developer and is taking over another one .. where they got past the smoking law cause their pub is bigger than 1/3 of the restaurant part! So now ... THAT will be the only pub where smokers can go drink in peace!)

And all three have empty rooms, now, where everyone used to sit drinking and smoking....

Everyone sits either in the tiny little "Fumoire" room ... (cause smokers are more interesting and sociable..?)...or they sit outdoors if the weather is fine.

BUT I want to know this: WHERE are all the non-smokers who should be patronising the now clean smoke free pubs?... instead of the pubs going bankrupt?

I'm a non-smoker, I wouldn't mind being with a smoker although I would like to see her stop but it's her business in the end. I'd just like to point out to the smokers that it is them who have the "problem" in other words they should be asking the non-smoker is it ok for them to smoke. (So if you have just quit smoking, say no because I'd be tempted)

I have kissed a smoker an i could only taste the smoke right after she finished smoking but otherwise I could't. Bear in mind though that if you are going to have a cigarette the non-smoker is no going to enjoy the kiss as they would if you didn't smoke, not to mention the smell your clothes would have, and if you go outside to have a smoke you're spending time away from your date.

To conclude non-smoker will either have a problem that you smoke or are indifferent to it but they will nevr see smoking as a good thing hence QUIT SMOKING!

Hello Smoky!
Smokers should be allowed to smoke every where just they must not let the smoke out!!!
kidding

It is happening the same in my city, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. are getting empty for the law about not smoking in there and some places are getting "protection" (amparo in Spanish) against the non-smoking in public places law.

I used to smoke before getting pregnant ( my children are grown ups now) and after that never did it again but I would date a smoker, that is part of respecting others options, decisions in life.

grin Tis all part of a plot.

A big plot to control the world.

First you got what you HAVE TO HAVE ......

You got to have your injections.

Now comes what you not allowed to have ..

You not allowed to smoke!

Who the hell cares about your health?
Your health only matters if you got enough to afford treatments ... otherwise you get to go home and die peacefully in your own bed.

But .. you ARE ALLOWED TO DRINK ALCOHOL!
You can drink as much alcohol as you like, till you lying on the pavement in your own puke ...
You can even kill someone and claim being drunk as an excuse.
You can beat up your kids, and be called "having a disease", and being sent for "treatment".

So ..... you not allowed to smoke in a drinking pub, which is not connected to a dining room (?) ......you not allowed to smoke in a railway station ..... or a shopping centre ....

But ... you can cook your food in a Teflon pot ..... which, according to todays newspaper news .... the heated Teflon gives off poisons that kill birds! ..... "Please remove your indoor caged birds from the room where you cook with Teflon".....

................. Sorry ... I gone off topic ... again......aplogies ....sort-of.

Which reminds me ..... Chlorine in swimming pools causes cancer ... Statement by health authorities in Spain, last week! Not "could" ... but "DOES".

But you can all carry on swimming ... it`s good business for ......somebody!

Hi Smokey, I posted below my thoughts on a similar thread on the international forums, but while I do think establishments should be given the choice to operate exclusively as smoking or not smoking,
I understand part of the reason for this clamp down was for the well-being of the staff, (though they would surely know the dangers when applying in the 1st place), and have to say, I have seen a massive difference in the way my clothes smell after being out, especially a good jacket you like to wear..

As for drinking, well the publican/restaurant/off-licence has a duty of care, in most places, as to whether the person should be given more or not.. Yes, people can always find a way round this when extremely desperate, but it just may make the difference to something leaving the cooker/fire on or not at home and the very worst happening..

On a better note, well done eu for winning today.. cheering

"As for smoking, I'm not keen on it, but would never stop anyone as I know it can be both enjoyable and also makes some relax...

However I would encourage them to consider either cutting down or stopping if possible as my granny used to smoke, but she stopped and was doing fine, (she still had her whisky ), but then she met a smoker who made her happy and they even married, but she did start smoking again and unfortunately became ill not long after and passed away before she reached 60.

While smoking may not have been the only factor, I firmly believe it certainly made a major impact and one wonders if she had not started again would she still be here as my granddad did stop and he's still going strong at 82.. I miss my gran dearly though"

You sound a good level headed thinking man, Yash. Thanks for your input here.

Ja, well ... we ALL got to die from something! I would rather die from an overdose of Morphine than in a car smash or drowning. AND I would rather die younger than older ...... I really do not like the idea of driving a Zimmer Frame down the main street!

You are young as you feel and the centenaries are the fastest growing population in Scotland, with there being 750, compared to just 50 odd in the 1940/50's.. Though I do love Billy's classic..
