jvaski: I agree that Obama's health care bill isn't great, and many of us are very disappointed that he caved-in to republicans with tossing out the "public-option" which would have given these insurance companies the "competition" they so badly need !
bamabulldog08: When a law was passed saying we have to buy health insurance I canceled mine! I will not buy health insurance as long as big government requires it of me. And I wont pay fines, got two lawyers who say they cant enforce it cause its unconstitutional!!!!!
My question is - do you think the government should be responsible to pay with our tax dollars if you become ill ?

Yes to all three.
Auto insurance is something that is needed to protect drivers from drivers who are not able to pay up and are found at fault with the accident. That is why I believe in state mandated auto insurance. Which means you don't have insurance then your tags and license are not valid. They (the state) cancels both out. Also I have a few other perks with my auto insurance. Towing, car rental, weather related boo boos, etc....
Home owners or renters insurance. To be honest when I rented I never had renters insurance. But I did not really have anything that was replaceable of value with my home as was stated if mortgaged it is a requirement. But still if not motgaged I do not know of anywhere where something could not happen to ones home. To rebuild would be a great out of pocket expense. It is nice to know that I am covered. And also as with auto I have a few extra perks thrown in there too.
Life insurance I do not want to burden any of my loved ones. I want the simpilist of things done. What ever is left of the insurance I don't care what they do with it. Just creamate me and I have a loved one who knows where and how I want to be scattered. I want no funeral, no viewing. These are my wishes I want everyone just to continue on. They have showed me more respect and love in my life than I could ever earn. Some do not understand the no funeral. But it is my wishes.
I would like to say something about medical coverage too. And this is in the United States. I have been in some countries much better and some a lot worse I have taken people to the hospital with and without insurance. Insurance here is not a luxry if you value your life. When I have brought someone in with health coverage either private or government (and we do have government coverage of many types) I find they are treated with dignity and differently than those without. Those without not such a happy story. Brief run down. Go with person to hospital. No insurance. We start the waiting game to see a doctor. Person is having difficulty breathing no hurry (sarcasm). I get upset I go say few words to nurse on duty (if that man falls on the floor I am going to knock you on the floor) We finially get a room after I have lost all composure I should be able to keep as a lady. Then we find out there are problems. This, this and this can be done. Wonderful. Lets do it. Sorry you have no insurance or money to do this. We will send a social worker to help you find assistance. Three days later still not getting no assistance. Friend dies I am really pissed. I want to know how a hospital can get by with this. I get a lawyer. I want answers. This is what I paid to find out. No insurance, no money, a hospital does have to treat you. But they don't have to do anything but the minumum. Nice huh life just isn't nice sometimes.
My insurance is already paid by the taxpayers. It doesn't mean that it is free for me. Yes I get yearly check ups, but other than that, being shot could be the next time I see my doctor... I would rather find another reason to visit my doctor.
