magna--I agree, intellect and wisdom are becoming rare in some areas probably due to globalization and cultural dilution. I suggest it's at least partly due to the spread of modern American culture. As for "Grandee", I think he was making an attempt at humour by suggesting that he is more intelligent than you based on the theme of your post. Of course, we all know how intellectual Belgians are.
It seems that whenever someone makes a thoughtful post here that isn't childish or silly, there will be someone who will feel compelled to attempt to make a stupid joke out of it to amuse themselves.
