sally101: It's a reflection on our society that we saw this happen all over the inner cities in UK and Ireland during the early 80's. A supposed war was waged against the scourge of heroin - all of a sudden we all had a few bob and we were all too busy to notice whether we won the war or not. 25 years on and it's like nothing changed.

I witnessed the walking dead during the 80's, totally agree with you, supposedly gone away but lets now see it re-emerge, and it will, and we'll blame the economy, but it was always there but we were all too busy with too much money to see it or acknowledge it and even the junkie's were richer cause pickings were better, but now there back to basics, which is why it will become more obvious

galwaydave: i was in dublin today and while enjoying the beautiful city and a bit of shopping i came across a lady injecting what i presume is heroin... so sad my heart goes out to these poor people

Did you kick her dunno

I like to kick them a wee bit blushing ..sometimes i tell them how much money ive got too and how life is so unfair giving me all the things i dont even need whilst others have nothing..roll eyes

Honestly though in the freezing cold weather i like to drive by homeless people , stop the Landcruiser and eat my breakfast roll reading my paper ....it makes me appreciate it even more having other people staring at me with hungry eyes

So to All the Junkies and Homeless teddybear teddybear

Keep up the good work uh oh uh oh ..No hold on they dont work do they...then who feeds them and pays for their hospital treatments. You know where does the money come from ...surely not from the Children who need transplants....the schools who are crying out or funding....the hospitals that are being closed down....the Parents who ....conversing conversing ..So all the people who have no choice to rely on funding and are trying to genuinly do good have their funding cut to give it to people who knew Heroin was a drug and addictive and thats ok..

Ask me and i think Society is weird ....

Not sure but i dont think their Organs can be used if they snuff it ...so their no good even as donors doh

One last thing as well....they are soooo un colour co-ordinated ...I often see them lying up against a red brick wall wearing yellow or black jumpers ..doh doh Cmon these colours Clash doh ..something more subtle would help ..jmo

puggle: the fact of the matter is that this drug is introduced into early teen impressionable impoverished soceity mostly.. the victims(and they are victims) are too young and peer pressured into starting...the fact that yrs down the road might make them
steal,fight,bite...indeed anythin to feed their habit is not to be lost on the innocence they lost as kids...
if you keep that in mind you inevitably reach to conclussion""they never had a chance!""

if this is realised, then you must agree that the solution is at the start... when their young, not by slamming them onto metadone and clinic lines... percent success is low...

but just like any education...get them young and the success rate is much much greater...jmo mind!!

and is it sad???
yes...for ev victim,family member,community at large..
thumbs up

sally101: The culture of the supposed designer drugs was born of an entirely different set of circumstances to heroin. While the results and implications are similar for the people and families involved, the circumstances were entirely different and came about from an excess rather than dire hardship.
Also better educated and better income families will find more and greater resources than those on the lower socio-economic scale to help with rehabilitation.
thumbs up

this thread was about one person feeling sorry for someone else, why twist it? you use the word junkie have you ever heard of labelling theory and the results of such things? google it! its interesting. i understand all the negative aspects but i also understand how terrible that poor girls life was, filthy addicted and judged, im sorry but the way you look at it isnt flattering. by the way ive had my house robbed by drug addicts so i have every reason to hate. woods, galwayguy your not bad guys and if i said something that made you feel like you are im very sorry but i cant help but be very disappointed with your reactions.

The reason we have this problem is because of lack of judgement in the first place. Judgement is now a dirty word, all sorts of behaviour and life-choices are accepted because people are afraid to judge.
We must get back to the notion of individual responsibility. By excusing the junkies you're adding to the problem, you're saying that their lifestyle is acceptable. Bad behaviour needs punishment to stop it.

No problem, your a nice guy and your reaction to the junkie reflects well on you but don't forget that for every junkie there's one or more - probably several - victims of their robbery and burglary, you don't notice them as they're not visible but they are there.

A purely self-inflicted disease, following from bad character.
