Is it just me or has our whole society gone absolutely barking mad!!!help People have suddenly gotten so sensative to using anything labled as "offensive" that we actually have to start changing the names of sports teams as to not offend ANYONE?!frustrated Why is it that if one person is offended by something as simplistic as a word or term we need to change our entire speach pattern to accomodate them?dunno

Exactly my sentiments!

People still think what they think anyways.

It's not like I take any personal offence the the term "cracker" or "honky"

when we have to tip toe through life... shame.

it's crept in so many areas, rediculous...

as with anything else, we take everything way too far, or nothing at all... stupid

On the surface, I'd be somewhat inclined to agree with you.

But then I have to stop and think...do I REALLY want our local hockey team to be known as the "Nashville Crackers?" I think not. People have pride in their heritage and they have a right to be treated with respect and not as some kind of a joke.

I think the world has gone crackers that is why I am stocking up on peanut butter. I am thinking of putting bars on the windows in case Polly comes by. If Polly wants a cracker then Polly can go some where else. Desensitivation can be helpful because if you have to pick and choose each word you say or type then forget about trying to have a conversation or try to communicate with someone. In the real world you can get your toes stepped on and get the ego deflated from your ego to help you become human, again. False pride, false courage and false anything is simply not true. One has to simply dust one's self off after getting knocked down and to learn to roll with the punches.

That is, sort of, my point. We have become such a sensitive society that any slip-up of language can be misconstrued as a slur against any given group of people or belief system. Should that really be the way we live? Afraid to offend anyone with what we may say even if it is too the point? I beleive our society has gotten way too sensative to everything. In grade school someone called me a name i would ignore them. But now if someone is called a name they call their congressman, where did we become a society of people who cannot handle words that are only as powerful as the respect we give them?

Well here in Ontario it's so bad that now they want to change the word Christmas to "Seasons Greetings" when they start infering with my favourite time of year I have to draw the line!!!!!!

My god Christmas has always been Christmas...and if someone doesn't like it they can go back to their own country and celebrate whatever it is they celebrate!!!!!!!!!

That may sound mean....but I'm sorry we can't change everything to accomodate everyone!!!!!!

Christmas is part of being Canadian and that's just the way it is!!!!!

Oh here they've been doing that for years...in the work place, anyway. It's not a Christmas party, it's a "holiday" party.

but, in all fairness, many people are not Christians and do not celebrate Christmas, so it doesn't bother me that it's called a holiday party and, in fact, I know if i wasn't a Christian, I'd probably feel offended, at the worst, or left out, at the least.

There are so many good ones. I like the ones with the fishes, but then there are the ritzes and saltines taste good. I can't understand how someone would like crackers without them being seasoned. Yuck, lol.

I have to admit i'm tired of trying to keep up with all the new names...frustrated

My family were immigrants to this country and we "earned" our right to be called Canadians...and part of that was embracing all that was Canadian...wasn't that thre reason for people to immigrate in the first place...because they wanted the life that that particular country offered...(I know I know...wishful thinking huh...)

Yes wikked that was the point I was trying to make...There are so many cultures in Canada that trying to please them all will never work and that is my point as well...To each his own and practice what you wish...BUT don't complain about what's already here that the rest of us Canadians already enjoy!!!!!!!!

I'm native but would never even consider complaining about what someone else enjoys and their traditions epecially if I lived in another country!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll tell you Native...nothing pissed me off more than when the Sikhs were allowed to wear their traditional turban in the RCMP...I think i lost some respect for the country i had adopted that day (and its been on a steady decline ever since...but its still my home)

Well that same situation came up where the young sikhs were allowed to wear it in school...IN BLOODY SCHOOL for God's sake...my KIDS go to those schools...were are their rights to be in a "safe" environment?

And don't get me wrong...I love the fact that Canada is multicultural and tolerant of other races/creeds and religion...but my goodness where does Canada draw the line?? Pretty soon the Canadians won't know what country we live in...

They allowed the ceremonial daggers to be worn in school? That's a bit crazy. Canada needs to adopt our 'weapons in schools equal expulsion and felony charge' policy.
